There's not much to say... I come from a long line of Appalachian folk that landed in America long before flipping off the King was even a twinkle in the eyes of our founding fathers. We have been Carpenters and coal miners... Soldiers & Sailors and pig farmers and Sunday morning circuit-riding preachers. Hell, I'm told we have even been fairly decent bootleggers too.
I vividly remember all the hub bub about jobs being shipped overseas under the Bush Admin. Lamentation after lamentation about we poor saps being screwed by "the man" - a greedy and uncaring Republican administration. This was happening (according to our Liberal friend) because, well, it was the Republicans...
More than a couple people were probably unimpressed with this little gem from the Oscars last night. These awards ceremonies routinely devolve into more of a shouting match amongst political savants than they do actually celebrate entertainment success. Now, I'm sure it's wonderful getting drunk at the after party...

“Low Tide” Conservatism

For folks not familiar with the offense to the senses at low tide, let me suggest to you there is a smell about the air quite unlike any other; swampy, a little on the sewerage side, and yet somehow deliciously pungent and, dare I say, almost a little sweet....

The take on this news is sad...interesting, mind, but sad nonetheless. The Arizona House wants to enact legislation that would make it illegal to abort babies based on gender or race. The columnist suggests (as does my title here) that this is "a solution in search of a problem"...
