Conservative In The Primary, Republican In The General

Christmas is behind us now and the New Year dawns on the horizon. For most of us, the end of 2020 can’t get here fast enough; we have all had good years and bad years, but this has been the 7th circle of hell sort of year and it needs to be put out of our misery. There is no point in trying to do any sort of serious recap because staring in the rearview mirror eventually makes you drive off the road and into a ditch. There is clearly a mess behind us, but failing to look forward will only prolong the work necessary to dust ourselves off, gather our belongings, get back up on our feet and get back to work.

The tagline of our website reads “Electing Constitutional Conservatives To Public Office” and it deserves being repeated whenever and wherever possible. Like the Tea Party Patriots from whence many of us here arose, being actively involved in our government, at whatever level it is within our power to do so, is what was expected of us by our founding fathers when they put this country together for us.

We have seen, over the years, that when we hold our elected officials accountable for the jobs we hired them to perform, we can have some impact on their overall job performance. We have learned the hard way, unfortunately, that when we only cast our vote once every 2 or 4 years and then get back to living our daily lives, it doesn’t take them long to wander off the reservation. And we have suffered accordingly.

Like any parent with a 17-year-old who decides their child can be trusted with a credit card, we more often than not only find out when it’s too late to do anything else but foot the bill. Whatever lies ahead, beginning on January 21st, 2020, our National teenagers are going to be activating those credit cards and the race will be on to see which side of our political chasm can spend more than the other before the midterms.

Consider this a Conservative Crisis call to action.

Many years ago, I was part of an operation that prided itself on its commitment to being “Conservatives in the Primaries and Republicans in the general. Many of them, whose names I would love to put out in the Public Square, turned out to be self-absorbed opportunistic assholes co-opting a movement with their only goal being personal notoriety and financial enrichment rather than furthering a national ideal. I won’t “out” them, in deference to the voices of the better Angels in my head, but neither will I stay quiet any longer about the damage their selfishness has caused on the country.

And neither should any of you.

In the new year, when everyone is sworn in, go find the contact information for every one of your state and local officials. Put their email addresses and Office phone numbers on speed dial. Make your personal goal, over the next two years, to be the worst nightmare these politicians never saw coming. Forget this silly”build back better” nonsense, then get busy with the new “Hold Them Accountable” work that lies ahead… Including Big Tech and Corporate Media of course 🙂

There's not much to say... I come from a long line of Appalachian folk that landed in America long before flipping off the King was even a twinkle in the eyes of our founding fathers. We have been Carpenters and coal miners... Soldiers & Sailors and pig farmers and Sunday morning circuit-riding preachers. Hell, I'm told we have even been fairly decent bootleggers too.
