1907. Title 8, U.S.C. 1324(a) Offenses

    Subsection 1324(a)(1)(i)-(v)

And so we now have Mayor Rahm Emmanuel, who sits idly by as hundreds of Chicagoans are murdered every year, and thousands maimed, strutting about the national stage like a peacock all puffed up and full of vinegar, talking about how he’s going to sue the United States if federal funds are withheld from Chicago because it refuses to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement officials.

Chicago officials on Monday filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Justice Department over a plan to withhold federal public safety grants to jurisdictions with so-called “sanctuary city” policies.

The law firm which the City of Chicago has hired in this matter is one Wilmer Hale and one of the attorneys hired is the infamous Jamie Gorelick. Yes, that would be THE Jamie Gorelick, who famously assisted in erecting the “wall” between the FBI and the CIA over sharing of intelligence back in the 90’s, which led directly to those agencies not being able to cooperate in deterring terrorist threats, most famously the most famous of all, the 9/11 attacks in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. Does anybody see the irony here in Jamie Gorelick now assisting in erecting a “wall” between ICE and Chicago law enforcement officials? You can’t make this stuff up, folks.

So far, the Justice Department has only threatened to pursue the withholding of funds from these so-called “sanctuary cities”, like Chicago. But unless I don’t know how to read and comprehend what I read, non-attorney that I am, there are also criminal statutes with accompanying penalties related to the matter of harboring illegal aliens.

Harboring — Subsection 1324(a)(1)(A)(iii) makes it an offense for any person who — knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that an alien has come to, entered, or remains in the United States in violation of law, conceals harbors, or shields from detection, or attempts to conceal, harbor, or shield from detection, such alien in any place, including any building or any means of transportation.

Encouraging/Inducing — Subsection 1324(a)(1)(A)(iv) makes it an offense for any person who — encourages or induces an alien to come to, enter, or reside in the United States, knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that such coming to, entry, or residence is or will be in violation of law.

Conspiracy/Aiding or Abetting — Subsection 1324(a)(1)(A)(v) expressly makes it an offense to engage in a conspiracy to commit or aid or abet the commission of the foregoing offenses.

Note here that I am not talking about refusal to cooperate with the feds, I am talking about harboring illegal aliens. If declaring that your jurisdiction, your city, is a “sanctuary” for those seeking refuge from federal immigration enforcement officials is not “harboring” them, I will eat my Make America Great Again Hat. If going on national TV and announcing for all to hear that illegals will find sanctuary in Chicago is not “encouraging” aliens to come to, enter, or reside there, I’ll buy another Make America Great Again hat and eat it, too.

p.s. Note also that we are not talking about, and the statute is not referencing, illegal aliens who have committed other crimes, major or minor. Harboring someone who is simply in this country illegally is sufficient to complete the offense. It. Is. A. Crime.

Good one, Bob. The DOJ should start throwing these thugs running sanctuary cities in jail, every one of them.

Actually my article about the leftie in Washington state only resulted because my partner’s daughter and son-in-law had recently moved from Chicago to WA. They were fed up with Rahm. The crime, the lack of good schools, the unions, the entire attitude. He was an Illinois state employee at one time and he now says his pension is in serious jeopardy.
