Now according to a release from House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, Lerner had a database of tax exempt organizations sent to the FBI just before the 2010 midterm elections. That database included legally protected taxpayer information. Emails show Lerner and DOJ Election Crimes Branch official Richard Pilger discussing what format the FBI prefers when it comes to receiving information for their investigation.
Conversations in the Republican Party inner sanctums:
“What’s that? The Department of Justice conspiring with the IRS to play politics? The Department of Justice conspiring with the IRS to violate the civil rights of tax exempt political action groups in the US?”
“Oh, yeah, right. Um, might want to hold some hearings or something. The only thing is, see we can’t call it the “DOJ Scandal”, like in the Fast and Furious scandal or the Benghazi scandal or the VA scandal or the IRS scandal. Because, well, people like J. Christian Adams, Peter Kirsanow, Quin Hillyer and Hans von Spakovsky have been telling us for years that the DOJ was corrupt and we just didn’t want to hear it, didn’t want to do anything about it.”
“Come to think of it, we knew Holder was corrupt when we allowed him to become Attorney General, didn’t we?”
“Yes. Yes we did. But we were cowards. In fact, Holder himself told us so to our face shortly after he assumed office. And we continued to be cowards even after the New Black Panthers scandal, even after the Fast and Furious scandal.”
“Yes. Yes we did. So, we’re a little late to the party, aren’t we?”
“Yes. Yes we are.”
