Being a common man, I look for inspiration, for original and, well, thoughtful thought, for clear-headed, informed analysis, that sort of thing. Waylon Jennings said his heroes have always been cowboys; mine have always been honest yet passionate thinkers. Perhaps there isn’t a lot of difference.
A few weeks ago, one of my heroes, Thomas Sowell, disappointed me on some issue or other. It doesn’t really matter what it was now. The issues are mattering less and less these days as the right, or more accurately the ‘center-right’ in this country surrenders on issue after issue. Global warming, Fourth Amendment. Second Amendment, lately Obamacare. All the rage these days are calls for a constitutional convention because ours just isn’t good enough anymore. See, you don’t have to call yourself a ‘Progressive’ in order to be one. You just have to…be one. And they are.
I hit a new low in chronic depression syndrome today with this entry from Victor Davis Hanson at Pajamas Media:
Cliven Bundy spouted off racist generalizations the other day as reported by a New York Times journalist, stereotyping blacks in negative fashion, with unhinged referencing to slavery — and after that in an ad hoc talk generalizing about Mexican immigrants in positive condescension.
Victor Davis Hanson. My hero. A New York Times afficionado. Who knew?
There is more in the piece, but for me, the ‘rush to judgement’ by Hanson and the majority of the chattering class out there reminds me of what they did in the Andrew Breitbart/Shirley Sherrod episode, first feigning horror at a possible racist black woman ensconced at the USDA, and then turning around posthaste and pouncing on Andrew for supposedly attempting to demean Sherrod, when his motive was something altogether different. Rather than go into a long and futile rebuttal of Hanson’s rush to judgement, I’ll just link to an expose’ of the whole mischaracterization of Cliven Bundy’s remarks from a ….wait for it…Black woman (with more common sense in her little finger than the sum of all the eggheads on either coast).
There are several other dissents from the now conventional wisdom that Cliven Bundy is a despicable cad being spewed by center-right commentators, but they are mostly from your everyday bloggers who actually do a little digging before they publish, unlike some of their more learned and well-paid…superiors. But one critical piece of evidence that showed up a few days ago was a CNN interview of a man out at the Bundy ranch who is…wait for it …..Black. What is unfortunate, and perhaps sinister, though you won’t find any mainstream reporting on it, is that the video has been scrubbed from the internet. Following this link will result in a statement that the account has been terminated. Had you been fortunate enough to catch this interview on the air or see it on YouTube before it was scratched, you would have been, after hearing every talking head in the country bash Bundy, amazed at hearing the regard and esteem this Black man has for Cliven Bundy, how he thinks of him as a ‘grandfather figure’, how he sees Bundy as in no ways a racist and how he, if it came to it, would take a bullet for him.
Do you know what that Black man is? He is a domestic terrorist.
Harry Reid said so. Harry Reid said supporters of Cliven Bundy are domestic terrorists. So if the video we referred to above resurfaces or you can locate it in an archive somewhere, you can see for yourself the face of a domestic terrorist. That face is Black.
(I just found the video at Jim Hoft’s site. If it works for you, you can hear it straight from the horse’s mouth.)
Oh and by the way, here’s another take on Cliven Bundy by another ‘domestic terrorist’ who also happens to be a ….wait for it …..Black Marine:
Mr. Bundy could have used any racial demographic as an example: Native Americans on reservations, whites in trailer parks, etc. He noticed the crippling effects of receiving government “assistance” and the long term result of accepting handouts. It’s not progress at all. I challenge Sean Hannity, Rand Paul, and others to read my comment and reconsider their position in this matter. Individual liberties are at stake here, yours and mine. THAT is the issue. Don’t let the liberal media and ignoramuses like Glenn Beck and that weasel Harry Reid make you lose sight of the real issue here: The federal government is a burgeoning behemoth and a bully on a once constitutional playground.I sincerely hope you real patriots out there who can see through the smoke.

——————————————Cliven Bundy and Charlie Delta———————————
Now. While all our betters in the punditry class are agreed that Cliven Bundy is to be avoided like the plague, a fair number say that just because he’s no better than Bull Connor, doesn’t mean the land grab dispute out in Clark County, Nevada should be abandoned as a cause celebre. But a fair number of others say that, indeed, Bundy trashed his own cause and gets his just desserts from the feds.
Here’s what I say: I say that all those jumping on the “Cliven Bundy is a putrid racist” bandwagon, having clung like parasites to the New York Times’ initial story, having to this point nearly unanimously ignored controvertible evidence, having refused to scholarly parse the Bundy comments in the context of the widely-accepted (most prominently by these very same illuminati in their various forums) conservative and center-right talking points that Blacks in this country damned well have been enslaved to a highly institutional degree by the United States Government and the faux-bleeding-heart liberals, all these people have not just joined the “Racialist Club of America, Incorporated”, but they have in fact joined Harry Reid in condemning those who support Cliven Bundy as domestic terrorists.
Harry Reid said Cliven Bundy was a racist and Sean Hannity, Dana Loesch, Glenn Beck, the National Review, the American Spectator, Fox News and the whole cast of characters in the pundit class have now shouted “Hallelujah!” Cliven Bundy was nothing more than a cheap date for Sean Hannity to ramp up his viewership, and now Hannity and all the others have bowed to the PC gods who are calling the shots from inside The Beltway. So they stand with the New York Times. And Al Sharpton. And…Harry Reid. Dirty Harry, as he’s fondly referred to.
“His comments are beyond repugnant to me,” Hannity said of Bundy’s remarks. “They are beyond despicable to me. They are beyond ignorant to me.”
So when Harry says those who support Cliven Bundy are ‘domestic terrorists’ there is only one response the chattering class can logically make, right? And that’s “Amen!”
Since there’s apparently nothing wrong with knee-jerk responses, from the eggheads to the talking heads, (“Oh, dear! I’m not a racist supporter! Please, please put me down as despising Cliven Bundy for all time! He fooled me into supporting him!”) they may as well condemn those who support Bundy, turn their backs on them, and let Harry Reid, Barack Obama and Eric Holder have their way with them. Bundy supporters are no better than ‘domestic terrorists’ and deserve whatever fate awaits them for standing with Bundy.
That about right, guys and gals? Are the country class, including one Jason Bullock, now “domestic terrorists”? Yes, yes we are, aren’t we? Ignorant, despicable, lowlife, domestic terrorists. Not to mention racists.
And you all thought you were just patriots, didn’t you? So did Jason Bullock. So did Charlie Delta. Join the club.
My heroes have always been cowboys.
And they still are, it seems.
Sadly, in search of, but one step in back of,
Themselves and their slow-movin’ dreams.
