They. Do. Not. Care. There can be only one reason for the release of this information at this particular time, and in this manner- they are desperate. After weathering the onslaught by patriots in and out of government over the release of National Security information and terrorist-coddling earlier this summer (with the help of the Republican leadership castigating it’s own members for calling out the administration’s cozying up to the Muslim Brotherhood), they thought they had dodged a bullet.
Then came Benghazi. After the whining, pleading, moaning and complaining that it was all “the video’s fault”, it all came unravelled. Their backs are against the wall and they are desperate.
WASHINGTON — Small teams of special operations forces arrived at American embassies throughout North Africa in the months before militants launched the fiery attack that killed the U.S. ambassador in Libya. The soldiers’ mission: Set up a network that could quickly strike a terrorist target or rescue a hostage.
But the teams had yet to do much counterterrorism work in Libya, though the White House signed off a year ago on the plan to build the new military task force in the region and the advance teams had been there for six months, according to three U.S. counterterror officials and a former intelligence official. All spoke only on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the strategy publicly.
Do not be assuaged by the article’s assertion that current and former “intelligence officials” are the ones coming forward with this information ‘speaking on condition of anonymity’. These are not duty-bound patriots by-passing official channels to get the word out to the people. In fact, since we are now in the 21st century and the myth of the integrity of The Press has been shattered, it would not be beyond the pale for the Associated Press to have accepted the proffering of some WH functionary down at the local Starbucks that “intelligence” and “counterterrorism officials” were covertly coming forward. There is no way to prove or refute their existence.
As we said above, the timing is too ripe, the scandal too fresh, and in the face of the Administration’s and the State Department’s continual harangue that the investigation into Benghazi is in progress and no information can be offered, the only way the White House has to counter the growing firestorm of accusations that they willfully and explicitly refused to provide adequate security at our overseas Middle East Embassies is to sponsor stories like the one put out by the Associated Press, and currently being propagated by many news and internet outlets.
The narrative hoped for is that offered in the Washington Post headline:
White House widens covert war in North Africa, but task force too new to save US ambassador
“Task force too new to save US Ambassador”??? Are they kidding? If only the special operations task force had been up and running the Ambassador could have been saved? The amount of cheek and gall and utter disregard for the situation on the ground in North Africa, on the part of these White House operatives and their willing accomplices in the media, and what they expect the American public to accept by way of explanation, defies description. It is incomprehensible, unbelievable, despicable.
The reality of it is that once again they have thrown the special operators under the bus . No, it wasn’t a great secret that we have special operations forces in Africa. That has been published before. The point is that the White House has put a spotlight on them for political reasons. Once again they are being used and abused to save Barack Obama’s sorry
ass face. At some point it may become necessary to start asking the question “Are the Navy Seals, the Delta Force, and other Special Operators in the United States Military not only being used for partisan political purposes but deliberately being sacrificed to satisfy some unknown…..constituency?”
addendum: Special Operators to the contrary notwithstanding, as we were told that the FBI was on it’s way to Benghazi and now 20 days out we learn that didn’t happen, what ever became of the special Marine FAST teams that were supposed to be dispatched? Is it now the case that no US force, be it police, military, paramilitary, covert, rapid response or any other type, can protect or secure American assets overseas these days?
