Rich Man, Poor Man: Tear Down This Wall. . . Again

November 9, 1989, the Berlin Wall came down. The world watched in wonder, as what was demanded by President Reagan only a few short years before, came to pass. Joyful Berliners were reunited after nearly 30 years of separation. The wall fell that day and in short order the whole lot of the Iron Curtain countries (remember?) threw off many decades of Communist lies, coercion and gulags. Freedom loving Americans celebrated. Those Americans of the left gritted their teeth and put on a strained happy face. I leave it to your own imagination what the mood may have been in the Kennedy compound in Hyannis Port.

The fall of the wall following so closely the “moron” Ronald Reagan’s demand was a dagger to the gut for the left. Shock and awe, it was. The fact so many were crediting Reagan for eviscerating the Evil Empire was a twisting of the knife. It was pure panic for a while as many of the leading congressional leftists feinted back to the right to buy time to reorganize. Many went so far as to claim they were on board all the way with standing firm against Soviet aggression. It was bald-faced lying is what it was, as the lefties prayed Americans would not remember their nuclear freeze antics and other acts of surrender to the Bear. It’s was as if nobody ever said “better Red than dead.” Hanoi Jane and the killing fields? Unmentionable.

The really smart people rushed in and said it was the “end of history.” You have to be an intellectual with a serious screw loose or a serious agenda, to come up with something that plainly idiotic. Mr. Francis Fukuyama, deputy director of George H.W. Bush’s State Department’s policy planning staff, was the leading proponent of the end of history message. He claimed Western “liberal” democracy had triumphed. All that lay ahead was a boring fulfillment of consumer desires. The great conflicts were ancient history. I reckon 9-11 pretty much shot the hell out of Fukuyama’s theory.

While Bush 41 fumbled around trying to deal with a crumbling Soviet empire and all their nasty nukes, the lefties in the Democrat party were coming up with a plan to save their donkey hides. No matter how hard the media tried to preach that the _conservative_ forces within the Kremlin were resisting Gorbo, they couldn’t fix the word “liberal”. God knows they tried but soon the liberal Democrats became progressives. Those of the left buying the end of history found the word liberal had too much stank on it.

Thus, the progressives sprang forth (actually were reborn) with a new way, a third way, as Bill Clinton called it. A more middle of the road approach for Democrats, doncha know? Triangulation, you will recall it, if you lived long enough to know anything. It was another full-on fabrication, but with a dash of Earth in the Balance and an occaisonal hat tip to the Blue Dogs, Clinton reclaimed the presidency for the Democrats. He had no soul but he had some skills. He also had Ross Perot, the peace dividend and the big Mo’ from the technology explosion. Clinton rode the stock market like jockey Jean Cruguet rode triple crown winner Seattle Slew. Clinton went along for the ride and remains to this day *the* Democrat super star, blue dress be damned.

When Clinton’s presidential ride was over, he passed the bubble to George W. Bush. Bush had a soul but limited skills. To counter the dot com bust, Bush pushed through a large tax cut which included rebate checks to every taxpayer, up to $600 for joint filers. Good tax cuts but his bad on the rebate. Americans ate it all up and added, “Cool, free money, made in China.”

A few months later, Fukuyama was proven wrong. On a bright blue September day, the world changed. America and the West were dragged into another great conflict, this time with radical Islam. You know that ongoing story, but I wonder if you’ve considered that it was also a catalyst for the rebuilding of a new wall, one that again divided the haves and the have nots. Hold on to that thought.

The war against the evil doers raged. Bush squeaked by in 2004 but the Republicans were routed in 2006. Many Americans were flat out sick of the wars and the Republican’s anti-republicanism. Democrats took over the Senate and Nancy Pelosi became Speaker of the House. The Democrats spent like drunken don’t give a damns and protected their friends at Fannie and Freddy. Bush went along. The housing bubble, driven by Democrats and therefore by fraud and greed blew up, all over the world. Bush reacted by setting the table for exactly what the Democrat candidate, Barack Obama wanted. Bush started the bail-outs and the hand-outs. Obama won and then took it to a new level, saving his political friends and breaking the law with abandon. Nobody had the guts to say anything. There was no controlling authority.

Of course the $800 billion in stimulus and all the money printing have been a failure. Obama’s statist, top down, cram downs were doomed because that is not what works, especially in the middle of a depression. Now, nearly 4 years later, he has nothing to run on, except the wall he constructed between the haves and have nots. Obama offers taking from the successful to spread around the wealth to those not yet successful, too many of whom can’t get out of their own way or don’t want to. With 21 million unemployed or underemployed, what else can Obama do but divide Americans?

How is it that so many in the country are buying this divisive Obama-nation? It is only possible because so many Americans were never taught what Americanism is. Even many patriotic Americans have lost the meaning and can not explain that America is about equality of birth, not equality of results.

When Ronald Reagan gave his great speech in Berlin, 1987, East German police kept their citizens away from the wall so they could not hear Reagan’s words. Today, America’s mainstream media are protecting Obama’s wall, keeping the facts from the American people.

Tear down this Obama wall, America. November 6th, tear it down, tear down Obama and his enablers in the malignant media. Let there at last be an end to rich man vs poor man. Let us begin again.

I guess you could say, “Obama built the class warfare wall.” Now it’s our job to tear it down. Again, the way the Founding Fathers did it with the Constitution.

Isn’t it funny, TG, how people can get up and brush their teeth every morning and never understand how history repeats itself, or even that it does? Your summary of the last quarter-century is spot on. We have to have adult leadership. There is no alternative scenario that will work.

I remember vividly those last days of the Wall and watching people tear it down and throw pieces of them. And then on Christmas Day seeing the bodies of the Ceausescus (sp) executed by a Romanian uprising. Amazing stuff.
