Signs Of The Times

This post is not about political candidates or polling or bloviating by political pundits. It is about recognizing that there are still positive signs in our culture indicating that a majority believe in the God given rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness in this country. We’ve seen refreshing examples from movie producers, professional athletes in the NFL, NBA, PGA, an Olympic gymnast, a COO of a restaurant, and a rap musician – all demonstrating conservative beliefs and lifestyles. While this is not about what politicians should or should not be saying or doing, in some ways these events indicate what the majority of people approve and support in this country.

Once upon a time in America, before JFK was assassinated, there was a common bond of supporting and defending America against its foreign enemies. There always was and probably always will be divisions on the questions of taxing and spending, but there should never be any division about supporting the concepts established in the Declaration of Independence.

Recent movies and the success in attracting large audiences are signs of the times. One movie, 2016, can be seen in a theater near you. Two other movies can be purchased in DVD or Blueray disk format. Below are the trailers to them.

Chick-fil-A COO Dan Cathy gave an interview and expressed his personal opinion about marriage. Since his opinion did not fit the new “evolved” definition by some about marriage groups came after him with threats of boycotting Chick-Fil-A restaurants. This event prompted a backlash and a suggestion by Mike Huckabee to make August 1st Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day. Below are some interviews of Chick-Fil-A customers on this wonderful day.

Finally, this past year has brought out successful athletes who are devout Christians not afraid or ashamed to proclaim their faith. These athletes also share a friendship with their favorite music artist, Lecrae. Rap music is not everyone’s favorite type of music, but the video below lifted my spirits.

Not everything rises or falls on what a politicians does or says. Sometimes, it just takes an outstanding individual, living their conservative values and demonstrating the success of that kind of lifestyle, to show us a lot more about what’s really the true sign of the times in our culture today.
