Over 100 Million on the Government Dole

Over 100 million Americans are receiving welfare assistance. That’s a third of the country and it doesn’t include Social Security and Medicare. The number is expanding rapidly with Food Stamps growing 70% since 2007 (over 5% so far in 2012).

It’s sad to see so many depending on Uncle Sugar. Bad news for Americans is happy news for the Democrats and Obama because they know these government dependents will continue to vote for more government. It has almost become without stigma to be on the government dole, especially food stamps. Of course, most states no longer issue “coupons” and they certainly don’t supply food staples. They give out something that looks just like a credit card. Even conservative Texas does it.

In fact, Obama is doing his best to add to the welfare rolls. All on his own, without input from Congress (illegally?), Obama has made it possible for the states (mostly the big blue states) to remove the work requirement put in place by the Republicans in the 1996 welfare reform which was signed by a squealing Bill Clinton. Maybe Obama was just fulfilling that Clinton promise to fix the bill after he signed it. Nah, 16 years later this is nothing more than Obama hoping to create more life long Democrats.

Texas native. Conservative small businessman with 31 years experience. Government should roll back the nanny state. No country can tax its way to prosperity. The question isn't who will let me but who will stop me?

This is a culture war as well as a political one, Tex. If we lose the culture war it’s over, unless the working 50% of the country goes John Galt on “dey ass”.

At least these government “credit cards” have sped up the grocery line. I always hated getting stuck behind someone counting out a ton of those bills. “Oh wait, I think I have a few more in the bottom of my purse.”

Even when I had $40,000.00 of medical debt back in the late 80’s and early 90’s, I fed my family without assistance from the government. It wasn’t fancy and we didn’t eat out because that was too expensive. And no one went away from the table hungry.

They’ve made it too easy to get hooked and should be ashamed in peddling that junk.
“Hey baby, I got something that will make you feel oh so fine.
Here’s a free taste for now…later we’ll work out the cost”

It’s dark alleys for some these days.
