Rep. McClintock’s Amendment To Stop Subsidizing Failure

Of course this amendment did not pass, and if it had passed it wasn’t going to be taken up by the Senate or signed by the President. The importance of this amendment was to expose the Republicans who are not ready to eliminate any direct spending to politically-favored firms. It exposes politicians who love to appear at ribbon cuttings and issue self-congratulatory press releases at government-supported “alternative energy” businesses, but they fall strangely silent when asked to actually account for the billions of our dollars they’ve wasted. This one vote does not define who is conservative because no single vote can do that. What this vote does do is expose the ones who we need to be especially wary of with respect to wasteful spending.

There were 113 Republicans who voted “YES.” There were 107 Republicans who voted “NO” and 22 Republicans who did not vote. We need to be concerned about those Republicans who voted “NO” or who did not vote. I am proud of my Congressman, Mike Conaway, for voting “YES.” I will let him know my appreciation. Those of you who are a constituent of one of those 113 may want to do likewise. I’ll leave it up to your own judgement what to do if you are not a constituent of one of the 113 who voted “YES.” Politicians either use an opportunity to show an inclination toward cutting wasteful spending or they blow the opportunity.

    1. You may have encapsulated the whole of the task facing We The People, in addition to voting for constitutional conservatives – telling those conservatives who represent us just what our wishes are, and they are not bringing in crony capitalist “green” crap enterprises to our districts which are destined to fail.

    2. Well, I’m proud of my Rep, Billy Long for this one.  And absolutely unsurprised that Joann Emerson, the cull who runs as an R but votes as a D, is a no vote.  She’s as worthless to the conservative agenda as tits on a boar hog.  Actually, worse, because she actively votes against us.

I will never understand why the R party in MO doesn’t roust a primary challenge for her.  Her district is about an R+25 district.  We could get a rock there if we ran one.

    3. The congressional delegation that really got my attention is Oklahoma.  Everyone just automatically assumes that Oklahoma is one of the most conservative of the states. This vote leads me to think their elected in the House are more beholden to an Oklahoman owning a bunch of wind farms, T. Boone Pickens, than they are to their conservative constituents in Oklahoma.

    4. My guy, HOe Barton (TX-6), I’ve seen enough of these that I think it’s worth evaluating him overall. A good man, with a good heart and one who was a Spartan in the gap when it came to ObamaCare.  But this is disappointing.
