Update 3/6/12. It has been confirmed SEIU has been using a DC law firm to covertly acquire 501(c)4 status for the Occupy Wall Street crowd whilst the Tea Parties are under assault by the IRS and denied that same status. Link to the full story is here.
I have been working with a small band of people across the country to counter-act the despicable behavior of the IRS and their targeting of the Tea Parties and Liberty Groups with their onerous demands to acquire non-profit or tax-exempt status. Below is a good summary of the situation from a Fox News station in Cincinnati:
Fox almost got it right. The Ohio Liberty Council and Kentucky 9/12 are NOT caving in. Both groups have sent letters to the IRS telling them they “will not comply” with the IRS’ second, intrusive set of voluminous questions and are asking for the 501(c)4 status without answering them. You can read the full story here.
But even more exciting than this is Jay Sekulow and the American Center for Legal Justice (ACLJ) will be taking on this situation pro bono for all the pissed off patriots who are members of the Tea Party and attempting to acquire tax exempt or non-profit status. Mr. Sekulow is a former attorney for the IRS so he and his group are the perfect ones to take on this broad-based assault in which hundreds of Tea Parties have been identified as receiving the intrusive letters. What needs to be made clear here, is that the Obama administration is using the IRS in an attempt to grab tons of information about the Tea Party, their members, their donors and who they associate with. One TP was even asked details of their plans for a rally for Newt Gingrich.
ACLJ is petitioning Congressional leaders and asking all of us to sign that petition asking for Speaker Boehner, Rep. Darrell Issa and Senator Orrin Hatch, Ranking Minority for the Senate Finance Committee to investigate:
The Obama Administration’s IRS appears to be conducting politically motivated investigations of Tea Party organizations nationwide. Such bullying tactics – designed to silence these organizations during this critical year – violates these citizens First Amendment rights. The ACLJ is fighting back. Jay Sekulow, ACLJ Chief Counsel, is leading the legal team that is representing some of the largest Tea Party organizations in America. Join this fight. Add your name to our petition to the Speaker of the House and Congressional oversight officials now, calling on Congress to provide IRS oversight. (This will not be sent to the IRS.)

Remember, I said a few days ago that re-enforcements are on the way and they have arrived. Please pass this info along on social media and any TPs you may know. The public needs to be educated on what is going on as well.
Any Tea Party group who has received the letters you may contact me on twitter: @LadyImpactOhio or via a comment here.
I suspect the IRS ain’t gonna know what hit ’em.
