There are still seven months til Labor Day. A lot can happen. In thinking about what the best way forward, and thus outcome, for us would be, I think about “Unified Patriots”.
If I read Newt right, he’s a patriot. He has been a Protestant and a Catholic, so I don’t know how deep his religious attributes go. But I think the South Carolina vote was a model for showing the public understands how vile the MSM is, and while they appreciate the family values and all, and feel keenly the dire straits of the economy, they understand this is war on more than one front and for a lot of marbles. I think the SC model can be replicated in other states. The Palins and Perry I know are patriots. I have heard enough from them to know where they stand. They are in for Newt. I don’t know if Allen West has declared yet. Rubio throwing in with Mitt – even though Marco looks and sounds good, he’s just barely 40 years old and I don’t think he has a good handle on the Country Class/Ruling Class thing yet. He thinks he owes Mitt something – he doesn’t.
I have a sense that Mitt’s way of conducting himself he feels is not in violation of his Mormonism, at least if it is as the way some have described modern Mormonism to me – I do not know. But I am unsure of Mitt’s patriotism, and nothing that has come out of his mouth indicates to me he is aware of the stakes or willing to put the constitution ahead of business as usual.
Rick Santorum may be a patriot, but he is not a leader.
If we have learned anything, given most of us have been whacking McCain to death for going on four years now, it is that McCainism ain’t going to cut it. In addition to patriotism, it’s going to take somebody, or a coalition, who understands the stakes, and who also understands the treachery of the Establishment and the “campaign pros” who are looking out for themselves and not the country. Now, we here at UP are also beginning to understand the treachery of what we formerly considered to be the ‘conservative’ media. I still think FOX was threatened or at least intimidated by the Administration over Newscorp (hate the Murdochs for giving Obama that device), but it doesn’t matter. All MSM coverage, ALL of it, EVERYWHERE, will be anti-conservative from here on out. It’s going to be grass roots or bust. The deciding factor will be money and endorsements and radical rhetoric. Allen West radical. No apologies and no backing down radical.
The hole card for Obama will be a conflict breaking out, where he shows himself to be a tough guy by beating up on somebody, like Assad or something, and all the publicity gears up for his “gutsy calls” again, and the RINO’s chiming in “Well, you’ve got to give the guy his due, you know!”. On the other hand, if there is a disaster, like Iran sinking half the 5th fleet or something, it’s a different story.
Seven Months. Maybe Perry will get back in. Maybe Palin will step forward to reclaim her rightful place in the scheme of things. Maybe on a hot August night in Tampa a motorcade will pull up in front of the convention hall and a phalanx of conservative commandos will burst through the doors and announce that a posse has been formed and the jig is up. Maybe somehow it will become trendy to buck the establishment. I just wish the conservative coalition, if there is to be one, had formed three years ago, and that the potential candidates and the political operatives had been reading outlets like Unified Patriots instead of heeding the wisdom of the Rich Lowrys of the world, who have done such a fine job of sending constitutional conservatives to the woodshed and blaming Republican Party electoral failures on constitutional patriotism. But like I said, there is still time for such a thing to become fashionable and to prevent the country from sliding into the abyss.
