At long last the Susan G. Komen foundation will no longer provide funds to Planned Parenthood citing its new policy with regard to granting funds to organizations under congressional investigation. Komen donated over $500,000 annually to Planned Parenthood. This relationship with Planned Parenthood was always a sore point for pro-lifers who could not understand why Komen, an organization dedicated to fighting for women, would align itself with Planned Parenthood, which can not even offer mammograms. And Planned Parenthood certainly does not care about women (in or out of the womb). Now pro-lifers can joyfully support Komen. As one blogger put it “now we can support women without supporting murder”.
There is some debate as to the real reason behind the defunding of Planned Parenthood by Komen. Planned Parenthood leader Cecile Richards had this to say:
“It’s hard to understand how an organization with whom we share a mission of saving women’s lives could have bowed to this kind of bullying,” Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood told The Associated Press. “It’s really hurtful.”
Others cite the arrival of a new pro-life executive at Komen, senior vice president for public policy Karen Handel.
Whatever the reason, pro-lifers can rejoice in this decision. Please write to thank Komen (firstname.lastname@example.org) for this decision. They are being hammered by pro-aborts and could use some pro-life lovin’.
In news breaking late this evening, Komen has also stopped funding for embryonic stem cell research centers!
