What a Smear Looks Like

Long before Sarah Palin, the Democrat Media Complex spent its credibility in order to attack Newt Gingrich. Let’s look at a few of these images for old times’ sake.

A bad image of the Newt of 2012, with him looking like a hectoring school-marm.

Even when Time made Newt their Man of the Year they did it with a very unflattering cover, with Newt's skin tone approximating that of a lobster at full boil.

More typically, Time in this cover depicted Newt as "Mad as Hell."

Time, always classy, depicted Newt as Uncle Scrooge in this one. I guess he's plucking copper pennies off the eyes of the dead in this one.

Newsweek, not to be outdone, depicted Newt as the Grinch in this classic insulting cover.

And God forbid that Newt might get upset at the way he was treated by Democrats in the media or in the government. Time to call him a big baby!

Now let’s touch on a few other Republicans, just to hammer this point home.

Probably the worst picture ever taken of Michele Bachman. It's so bad that Newsweek decided to label her the Queen of Rage. Can you imagine Newsweek publishing an unflattering photo of Michele Obama, let alone the Annointed One himself?

How about this Atlantic cover of John McCain with every single pore highlighted and enlarged to make it as unflattering as possible, and then the published photoshop modifications that the photographer put on the web?

And finally, recall when Time imagined the Republican Party was leaving forever.

I hope this jogged your memory about how thoroughly Newt Gingrich has been demonized in the past. Every single one of his skeletons has been unearthed. They’ve all been exposed. Threats to find more skeletons are empty threats, because in the past there has never been a downside to attacking him. He’s a favorite target for the Alinsky acolytes on the left. And he’s a favorite target for the Democrat Media Complex, which stands exposed by its own actions as nothing more than the Pravda of the Democrat Party, the relentless propagandists of of the Big, Mean, Overbearing Government.

UPDATE 1/28/2012

Just to show you that the $1 magazine's mockery of Republicans will never end before it goes out of business. Note how it adds in a two-fer to insult homeschooling as well.

  1. CNN just “reported”:

Gingrich has characterized the penalty from the ethics panel as reimbursement for their investigation, which centered on a college course he taught that was misclassified as tax-exempt.

They leave out the part that after a three-year investigation, the IRS decided the course was properly classified as tax-exempt. In other words, CNN lied.

More lying by the lying liars of the Obamistake Media.

    Thank you.

  2. If for no other reason except for principles’ sake, I hope they fail. To launch an all out assault, peppered with misleading headlines, stories, and comments taken out of context; this stinks of Romney and the Establishment. Strange how much they hate Newt, maybe he doesn’t want to play their game of ball. Some may be persuaded by the smears, but I hope others are revolted and will choose accordingly.

    • There are many “theys” that hate Newt. The above are illegitimate hatreds based on a hatred of conservatism by the Left that owns 90% of the media.

Then there are most of those that have worked with him, including many good conservatives like men like Tom Coburn….

      • Mike, I think you will find that the people who like Newt are giving extra weight to the current poll question. “Can X win the general election, and will he shrink government?” At least our selection of Tea Partiers don’t believe that Mitt will shrink government. I suspect they believe Newt will. We shall find out when the poll resets in the morning, since starting tomorrow the question will be asked of Newt.

That said, I don’t care whether Washingtonians like Newt or not. Currently, I dislike Washingtonians very, very, very strongly. Perhaps I don’t hate them with the white hot heat of ten thousand exploding suns, but it’s close. So I care whether Washingtonians like or dislike Newt about as much as I care about whether a lizard farts in the Gobi desert. In fact, I hope that Washingtonians dislike Newt so much that they quit their cushy federal government sinecures and move out of Washington, and I hope they are snappy about it.

        • Yes, I do think Newt is more likely than Mitt to try and shrink government than Mitt. I think either could beat Obama, but do think Newt is less likely than Mitt. Close call for me weighing all the positives and negatives of each.

  3. In one of the most obvious examples of hypocrisy in internecine political warfare, the “Mitt is the only choice” crowd demonized Newt and Perry for “attacking from the left” and then turned right around and attacked the Newt for making a buck as a consultant.
