I got to West Des Moines late on the 28th. When I walked into Perry HQ the next morning I was welcomed with enthusiasm and told the morning training would start shortly but first, if I liked, I could participate in the morning prayer service. That’s the way they start their mornings at Perry HQ. What a wonderful way to kick off a hard day’s work.
One thing that struck me was the youth of the Perry staffers running things in Des Moines. They are dedicated people on a mission for country and Governor Perry. They know he is the right man at the right time to return this country to constitutional governance and economic prosperity. Those two things go together and Rick Perry understands that. He is America’s Jobs Governor and that is beyond dispute.
You have no doubt heard about the “Perry Strikeforce”, but some of what you are hearing may be wrong. All of the stikeforce people are in Iowa on their own dime, uncompensated for their efforts. They are not all from Texas. There are strikeforce volunteers from 30 states. I have personally worked side by side with volunteers from upstate New York, North Carolina, Georgia and Kansas. Their main goal is beat Obama and they believe in Rick Perry.
The work the strike force is doing is not glamorous by any means but it is vital, especially in a caucus state like Iowa. It’s no secret that a big part of any campaign’s strategy is phone banking . . . calling potential caucus voters to urge them to vote for your candidate and remind them of when and where.
Take a look ad this short video of the strikeforce in action:
Yeah, it’s like that. Calling strangers on the phone requires a certain resistance to rejection and is oh so repititious. But the calls move the meter and the strikeforce made nearly 10,000 calls in the first three days. Minds were changed on those calls. I heard it myself, over and over. I even changed a few myself. I specifically remember one lady who answered saying, “Oh you are not a computer. You are a real person and I’ll talk to you.” Hey, score one for TG and Governor Perry. Silly, but it was a bit of rush every time it happened.
There is much more going on at Perry HQ including a lot of sign waves. I’ve seen great response from that with a lot of honking and thumbs up and only a few middle fingers . . . hey there’s union people in Des Moines, you know. The rest of the strategy going on we are not supposed to talk about. Let’s just say there is a great plan and it is being worked by fired-up people.
