Prior to his winning the highest office, many of us saw our current President for what he truly is based upon his so-called writings, associates, speeches and campaign tactics. However, those of us born and raised in the northeastern area of Illinois knew to an absolute certainty what he is simply based on his political origin, Chicago.
Having grown up there, I’m instinctively aware of how things work, how things are, and why certain things happen. I don’t have to think about it, I grew up with it, saw it daily and remember it well. (Shucks, the original Mayor Daley, Richie’s Daddy, signed my birth certificate, back when he was only Cook County Clerk) I bailed out of Chicago proper to attend college and still live in Central Illinois, outside the immediate gravitational pull of Cook County, in the fly-over area known to the Windy-City folks as simply ‘downstate’. I’ve become one of the rubes, happily.
Given my origin, I didn’t need to study up on Obama as the 2007 Democratic primary season heated up. I knew who he was even before he elbowed his way into the US Senate. He’s simply a Chicago machine Democrat political punk; I knew lots of them until my migration to downstate was complete. Oh, we’ve got some of the same in my area, but they’re mostly second-stringers, amateurs.
Why might this be important? Because when folks babble about the Chicago Way, they’re mostly doing so as outsiders, using a turn of phrase the way the Left does with Social Justice. For folks who have lived it, it has a different meaning and a real, painful result. So, if you can spare a few minutes, I give you: Illinois, State of Embarrassment, which will get you acquainted with Obama’s antecedents and our current, sorry state of affairs; it’s kind of a short-course on why things are the way they are nationally.
Normally, I’d leave you with the admonishment to Enjoy! Except in this case, there isn’t any enjoyment to be had, only maybe a bit of enlightenment.
