Today, Spain’s socialist party suffered a humiliating loss in that country’s general elections. Voters finally turned against the socialists amid horrific economic conditions. The Socialist leader, Zapatero, inherited a thriving economy and managed to destroy it with liberal, socialist policies over the course of seven years.
From the CIA World Factbook:
Government efforts to boost the economy through stimulus spending, extended unemployment benefits, and loan guarantees did not prevent a sharp rise in the unemployment rate, which rose from a low of about 8% in 2007 to 20% in 2010.
The government budget deficit worsened from 3.8% of GDP in 2008 to about 9.7% of GDP in 2010, more than three times the euro-zone limit.
All of this sound eerily familiar? Yes, indeed the United States has a president who has made it his administration’s objective to look more like Europe. Let’s hope in November 2012, we, the people of this great union, also give a crushing blow to the Left.
This is big news. Hope it’s not too late for them… and us.
Good news, indeed. Always bring in the conservatives to clean up messes, end wars, etc. Watch the unions hit the streets when austerity moves in too.
I just realized I didn’t even touch on the cultural decay Senor Zapatero presided over during his tenure. I should write a companion piece soon on that topic…it’s quite devastating.
