Barack Obama, a Man Without a Conscience

This post is nearing the end of what has turned out to be a series about Barack Obama.  From the first article that I wrote nearly two years ago, “The Absent Barack Obama,” to the present day, words spilled out describing my observations about this man.  I could not remain silent.  This article was prompted by two simple words recently spoken by the president.  The words?  “Darn Tooting!”   It was those two words that were the final clue, connecting the dots and helping me to understand why Barack Obama is so disturbing to many of us.  That, and a friend once told me it is the little things that actually give away who and what a person really is.

Conscience:  the inner sense of what is right or wrong in one’s conduct or motives, impelling one toward right action: to follow the dictates of conscience.

Sociopath … one who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience.

I’ve been told that there is a difference between having a conscience and being moral.  For example, two people with entirely different world views might both consider themselves moral even if they don’t think the other is. Or two different cultures might have practices that would seem morally opposite each other (and they are), but within the society itself, their practices are not seen as immoral.  Let’s leave that for a moment.

As defined above, conscience is noted as being driven by having a sense of right and wrong (moral choices) impelling one towards certain behaviors. In western cultures, more specifically, in our traditional American culture, we’ve had certain moral tenets that have been based from the earliest days of this country’s history on Judaic-Christian tenets.  The Founding Fathers considered it critical that this be a moral nation and John Adams declared,
“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

Now we look at Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States; a man selected and elected to lead this nation.  A man whom we (those who were fooled) expected to have respect, understanding and even affection for the 300+ million people that make up this vast country.  Of course, what we’ve seen over the past two and a half years belies that.  But recently, several events and Mr. Obama’s response to them, cements further the concern that this is a man without a conscience.  On Oct. 5th, Obama gave a speech to supporters at a fundraiser in St. Louis, Missouri.  The focus of his speech was the new regulations that will force any and all providers of health insurance to cover birth control, sterilizations, and the morning after abortion pill without co-pays or fees.  There was jocularity in the crowd, but one response he gave when the crowd cheered his words, was “Darn Tooting!”

“Darn Tooting!”  This is the President of the United State’s flippant and insensitive response to an issue that is important to many Americans (not just Catholics).  Only an individual who is indifferent and lacks empathy would trivialize and be dismissive of concerns that are taken seriously by others.  But it isn’t hard to accept if you examine it from the perspective of whether a person has a conscience. Barack Obama didn’t have a conscience for the 20yrs. he sat in Rev. Wright’s church, Barack Obama didn’t have a conscience when he hooked up with the unrepentant terrorists William Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn who committed terrorist acts against the United States and caused the deaths of innocent people.

Barack Obama didn’t have a conscience when he spoke about the half of America who are fond of their bibles, their guns, their families and their country.  He laughed at them, arrogantly proclaiming that they were too ignorant for his abilities.  Neither does he show much concern or conscience when he passively encourages the riff raff of the country to cause chaos and disorder.  Instead of standing up for law and order, and speaking for the Rule of Law, his silence comes across as tacit approval for this destructive social behavior.  It doesn’t seem to faze him that his union friends are getting in on the act of pushing social disorder.  For Obama, his inciting class warfare is strictly a means to an end for him.  To what end remains the question not yet answered.

Above I introduced the word “sociopath.”  It is a very strong word and not to be taken lightly, but as I’ve observed this president and his behavior, that word keeps coming to the forefront.  The link provides greater detail, but I’ll try to summarize here by listing some of the characteristics attached to this personality disorder:

Glibness and superficial charm, manipulative and cunning, grandiose sense of self, pathological lying, lack of remorse, shame or guilt, shallow emotions, and callousness/lack of empathy.

Each and every one of those describes behaviors we’ve seen from Barack Obama.  His flippancy, his disdain, his arrogance, his grandiosity, and his superficial smile with the empty eyes; all speak to a man who certainly has some degree of these sociopathic traits.  Then the question arises:  is a man without a conscience, a man who could be considered sociopathic?

Though morality and conscience are considered two distinct entities, to me, they go together in forming a moral compass.  Obama’s compass is so vastly different from traditional America’s, that it appears absent.  He may be a Marxist hero to the Left, but to many traditional Americans, he is morally corrupt.  I also believe that this man is a pathological liar, and we’re not talking the usual political speak and spin.  This is a man so deeply rooted in his own narcissism and arrogance that lying and deception come naturally to him.

It is important to remember that a person with a conscience feels remorse, one without, does not.  Barack Obama has spent the past two and a half years blaming everyone but himself for the issues that faced this nation on his watch.   Though the country could burn down around him, he’ll never be able to admit that he had a part in it.  Therefore, remember the words conscience and sociopath; in my opinion, this president exhibits none of the former, and too many traits of the latter.

  1. I have no problem accepting that he is a sociopath. History has shown that when given ultimate power, sociopaths will kill at will, Hitler, Saddam, etc., etc., etc., America is not set up for Obama to do that, but nonetheless it is time to send this bastard home!

  2. mriggio, you can’t imagine how difficult it actually was for me to write the post. At first, I danced around the strong words, and finally couldn’t NOT use them. The other difficulty I had, was thinking about a wife and children reading this about their spouse and father. I am sentimental…

Still, his behaviors tell the tale.

  3. Understand your angst, LP. While we all understand our leaders are people and have foibles, still, when their “uniqueness” and deification are carried to such extremes not only by the adoring press but by themselves, you have to note it.The examples are legion, but among them: He presumed to tell people who not to listen to on the radio; there was absolutely no reason for a president to interject himself in Cambridge PD vs. Skip Gates, and then have the gall to ‘summon’ the officer to a meeting; after telling the press and public his daughters were off limits, he used them in the Gulf Crisis and the abortion debate. So much more. This is not politics as usual.

    • You’re right, Bob. I started thinking about his foreign policy and his complete lack of disregard for the deaths of peoples his polices caused, Egypt being one example.

I’ve said before that he is a man without feeling…nothing has changed my opinion.

        • LIO, glad you noted “selected.” When I was writing this post, that word would not go away – it had to be included. The greatest harm done to America was because of that “selection.”

I hope we’ll learn the truth in our lifetime.

    • TG, I’ve always considered him a “foreigner” and it had nothing to do with birth certificates. There may be something to the idea that he doesn’t fit in anywhere; maybe that adds to his sense of entitlement and exalted status.

Being naive at the time, it did shock me that this country would elect someone without a past…

  4. We seem to have reached the point where, no matter his motivations (or perhaps because of them), whatever decision he makes, we can automatically do the opposite and be better off. It’s amazing that with the exception of the extension of the payroll tax provision (and that only for completely opposite reasons), I can find no common ground whatsoever with this guy’s policies, decisions and appointments. Its like living in that Star Trek episode with a reverse universe: good Kirk vs evil Kirk and so on. I no longer even watch his video clips on the news show; tired of yelling at the TV.
