Gov Perdue (D) Calls For Suspension Of Congressional Elections

This woman is putting a feeler out there for someone, and I say, bring it on. I am sick of the conspiracy theorists who each election cycle think that the President, any President of any Party would call for the suspension of elections. I want it to happen, I look forward to it happening, so that the Country can see exactly what that oath is that our military takes. If the President or Congress or Governor of any State decided to take a position of stopping the peoples’ right to throw them out, the United States Military would seize that politician and place them in jail; it is the law and I for one, believe that our military would do just that. You Think You Are Cute Ms Perdue? You Will Be Voted Out Of Office For That “Joke.”

Speaking to a Cary rotary club today, N.C. Gov. Bev Perdue suggested suspending Congressional elections for two years so that Congress can focus on economic recovery and not the next election.

“I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover. I really hope that someone can agree with me on that,” Perdue said. “You want people who don’t worry about the next election.”

(Read her full remarks below.)

The comment — which came during a discussion of the economy — perked more than a few ears. It’s unclear whether Perdue, a Democrat, is serious — but her tone was level and she asked others to support her on the idea.

Later Tuesday afternoon, Perdue’s office clarified the remarks: “Come on,” said spokeswoman Chris Mackey in a statement. “Gov. Perdue was obviously using hyperbole to highlight what we can all agree is a serious problem: Washington politicians who focus on their own election instead of what’s best for the people they serve.”

The Republicans sure are taking it seriously as they look to score political points. Here’s a statement from GOP spokesman Rob Lockwood:

“Now is a time when politicians need to be held accountable more than ever. To suspend an election would be removing the surest mechanism that people have to hold politicians accountable: the right to vote. Does the Governor not believe that people of North Carolina have the ability to think for themselves about whether or not the actions of elected officials are working?”

This is the one area of our Constitution that I believe the United States Military would stand and defend here on our soil. I have never doubted for a minute and have never believed that the Governors of the various States of which they are majority Red now, but were Blue under President Bush, would ever succumb to the whims of a President, Congress or a bat-shit crazy Governor and suspend the right of the people to throw the bums out of office.

  1. I’ve a question regarding Governor Perdue and it has a sideways-indirect connection to her desire for Totalita…… um…… absolute pow…… er……

Did Governor Perdue ever lift the state of emergency from Hurricane Irene ?

I can’t find anything, official or otherwise and it’s ‘kind of’ an important thing to have a concrete answer.

If you, dear U.P reader, could see your way to assist me in this endeavor, your work will be greatly appreciated by several hundred thousand, if not over a million highly responsible people in Governor Perdue’s state.

    Thanks.

P.S. I’m asking about the status in North Carolina, because during an officially declared by-the-Governor state of emergency in the state, all concealed carry permits are null and void.

  2. Well, I hop you are right, Jaded, but Lineholder’s frogs been in that pot an awful long time. Lot of them have that camo-frog look, too. Lot of ’em stand around and swear up and down that repeal of certain military strictures will have absolutely no effect whatsoever on morale or fighting ability. Some of’em even go so far as stating our fighting ability will be enhanced. SecDef went on record a couple years ago saying they didn’t need such a big defense budget. So imagine this:”Why, yes, we at DOD can understand howif Congress spends more time getting it’s act together, why it would benefit us in the long run!”
I admire your faith, Jaded, but I have seen so many cockamamie things the past few years, it’s hard to discount anything anymore.

  3. I freely admit that I am a total neophyte in the area of political awareness compared to all of you here. I just jumped in in 2008… a mere babe in the woods.
While I lack a fair amount of experience in political thought, what I do bring to the party is a splendidly honed, highly suspicious mind and a world-class level of cynisism.
There is absolutely NOTHING that I would label as being beneath these cretins… not one single thing. I believe they would murder all of us in the streets to keep themselves in power. And maybe this theory has been floated in past elections while I was still sleeping, but I am awake now and and I believe right down to my toes that they are capable of doing anything, no matter how heinous, to keep themselves in power. They are liars, thieves and every other perjorative adjective in the dictionary so why would I think they wouldn’t do this.
There is just way too much coming together all at once for all of this to be pure coincidence…
Fast and Furious… an attempted end-run around the 2nd ammendment
Hoffa’s little inciteful speech… nice tone
    Madison, WI
    The seige of Wall Street
The mob in Philladelphia breaking into a man’s home and beating him till the cops came
all the flash mobs in the malls that the LSM ignores

I believe they are just warming up here… testing the waters, as it were. With 13 more months of class warfare rhetoric from the-boy-who-would-be-king, aided and abetted by the ever illustrious SEIU and trumpka and the CBC etc ad nauseum, our streets will look like those in Athens in the not too distant future.
Vassar said a while back that the left had not bargained on the Tea Party and thus had to speed up their plans. I would look upon the potential suspension of the elections as their way of buying themselves more time. They have been waiting for this for a very long time and are not about to go quietly into the night just to lose it all with only 13 months to go.
And for myself I’ll put my money on the Oath Keepers.
    So I pray.
I pray for my daughter and my special needs granddaugher
I pray for the Rapture even though I believe I am thoroughly evil enough to be left behind
I pray for strength for all the good people in this country.
May the good Lord help us all.

  4. This is like the late 1960s.

Except, in the 1960s, we had adults from “the greatest generation” in charge inside the government, by and large, who lived through the Depression and WW II and Korea and the Missile Gap and the Bay of Pigs and the Gulf of Tonkin and we were in the midst of foul-smelling flower children rebelling.

Now, those foul-smelling flower children and some of their foul-thinking offspring have been given the reigns of power because of what happened in 2008 at the ballot box. And they are being assisted by their foul-thinking cohorts in the Democrat Media and their foul-thinking and foul-smelling cohorts in the unions. And they all know that they are “this close” to achieving their goal of scrapping the Constitution. You think they are going to go quietly into the night? No, they are testing the waters to see what kind of reaction will come from the American people. That’s what their ideology tells them to do. Keep pushing with their spears. If they encounter mush, they will keep pushing. If they hit steel, they’ll withdraw and to push on another front.

Obama has hinted about how easy it would be to run China as compared to the U.S. He’s hinted about how he needs people to start marching for him. He liked it when Hoffa said the unions need to “take out those son of a bitches.” Etc., etc., etc. He’s refused to seal our southern border. He’s essentially granted amnesty to all who are here illegally as long as they don’t get into any other legal trouble. Etc., etc, etc.

And what do most Americans do? Just complain on blogs.

  5. She was serious, no matter how they spin it. Maybe trial balloon or personal wishful thinking on her part, but there isn’t any other way to read/take what she said. Her speech writer gave her a lengthy paragraph, all in context, with the proposition. Think back to Obama saying how “democracy is messy” and he could get “so much more done” if it wasn’t for our system.

It is the way they think, this idea of doing things without restraint. What they haven’t been able to achieve by judicial activism, legislation, and executive orders, they wish they could achieve by other means…

  6. But wait…… There’s more.

Peter Orzag – Former Obama Budget Director:

    Why we need less democracy.”

So what to do? To solve the serious problems facing our country, we need to minimize the harm from legislative inertia by relying more on automatic policies and depoliticized commissions for certain policy decisions.

In other words, radical as it sounds, we need to counter the gridlock of our political institutions by making them a bit less democratic.

    Whiskey Tango Foxtrot ?!?

Mr. Orzag, Sir, go spit up a rope and take your Totalitarian garbage with you.

PS, Sir…… We’re NOT a Democracy. The United States Of America is a Representative Republic, with three distinct and separate branches of government.

Learn it. Know it. Live it.

    • Chris Plante was talking about Orzag this morning, if you remember it was the lefties under Bush who said he wouldn’t allow elections, again the Democrats will always tell you what they are doing by their projection on the Republican Party. I say bring it bitches, because the bottom line is out military will defend the Constitution NOT the President, NOT the Congress and NOT Governors!
