Stand Down, Gentlemen

Rest in Peace

Give me, my God, what you still have;

give me what no one asks for.
I do not ask for wealth, nor success,
nor even health.

People ask you so often, God, for all that,
that you cannot have any left.
Give me, my God, what you still have.
Give me what people refuse to accept from you.
I want insecurity and disquietude;
I want turmoil and brawl.

And if you should give them to me,

my God, once and for all,
let me be sure to have them always,
for I will not always
have the courage to ask for them.

You three gave your lives so that others might live free. May we be worthy of your sacrifice.

May God grant comfort and peace to your loved ones left behind.

Prayers and sympathy to the families and friends of these good men.

We, the living, go on but we too shall glimpse that moment “when the fire and the rose are one.” (T.S. Eliot) Let us remember those who gave all for us, that we may be worthy of our moment. And all will be well.
