Obama’s EPA Getting it Done: AEP Closing 5 Coal Fired Plants

Obama said before the 2008 election that the price of electricity would necessarily skyrocket under his cap and trade plan. He said America must go this route because global warming was going to do us in and coal is just so dirty. You’ll probably remember this:

So there you have the socialist Obama admitting what his plan was but somebody threw a wrench in the works. The Democrats couldn’t get Obama’s cap and trade through congress. Obama wasn’t fazed and proclaimed he would effectively accomplish his goal by letting the EPA mandate new regulations that would make coal fired plants very expensive to retrofit and operate. Mission accomplished.

Utility giant American Electric Power said Thursday that it will shut down five coal-fired power plants and spend billions of dollars to comply with a series of pending Environmental Protection Agency regulations.

The company’s dramatic plan to comply with the regulations could give Republicans and moderate Democrats ammunition in their ongoing fight against EPA’s efforts to impose new regulations aimed at limiting greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants including mercury and arsenic.

Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) immediately pounced on AEP’s announcement.

“This is a perfect example of the EPA implementing rules and regulations without considering the devastating impact they may have on local economies and jobs,” Capito said.

Don’t you wish Obama was as good at creating jobs as he is at destroying pretty much everything? He’s a one man army when it comes to strangling the American economy. Obama is stuck on socialist idealism and will be hoorawed out of office for it in 2012.

    • Do I not remember correctly or weren’t we told that, while repeal of enabling legislation and dismantling of agencies would have to wait until the Senate and the Presidencywere secured, the brakes could still be applied to what these people were doing because appropriations begin in the house? If there is no money to pay their lawyers, EPA wouldn’t be suing anybody, would they?

      • That’s good recall, Bob, but dang you know Boehner’s got a golf date with Bama and nothing matters except Boehner finding a way off the hot seat regarding the debt limit.

We can’t let Boehner carry over after 2012 and I don’t give a flip if the Rs gain another 30 seats. Any success is in spite of Boehner.
