Under the cover of UN darkness, it appears there was more than a little truth to the story a while back about that pesky little UN Small Arms Treaty everyone was in a lather over. Remember, now, the US has endorsed this plan under Obama’s watchful eye and his SecState means to get it ratified…and did I mention they are both anti-gun?
Back then there was much grumbling over the idea of the US signing off on an international treaty because in part, among other “minor details”, the co-signers would include all those people who want to see us dead. You know the ones… those little kingdoms and desert paradises with all those stark raving lunatics who strap bombs to their women and children and blow up innocent civilians in open markets and on buses (and airplanes if they can get through security). Remember them?
So…we need American citizens to give up our personal arms in order to make these freaks, most of whom want to kill Americans and Jews, feel better about themselves and not want to kill us anymore?
I got that right?
The other problem, and the one that revisits us today, is the idea that American Citizens would have their Constitutional rights replaced with the self-proclaimed ‘greater wisdom’ of the international community and those “leaders” who are only trying to make this a more peaceful world.
Nope…I don’t believe them either…
According to Forbes the UN means to make the us abandon it’s 2nd Amendment rights…and the Moron in Chief fully supports the idea:
Under the guise of a proposed global “Small Arms Treaty†premised to fight “terrorismâ€, “insurgency†and “international crime syndicates†you can be quite certain that an even more insidious threat is being targeted – our Constitutional right for law-abiding citizens to own and bear arms.
Have no doubt that this plan is very real, with strong Obama administration support. In January 2010 the U.S. joined 152 other countries in endorsing a U.N. Arms Treaty Resolution that will establish a 2012 conference to draft a blueprint for enactment. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has pledged to push for Senate ratification.
Former U.N. ambassador John Bolton has cautioned gun owners to take this initiative seriously, stating that the U.N. “is trying to act as though this is really just a treaty about international arms trade between nation states, but there is no doubt that the real agenda here is domestic firearms control.â€
In order to understand the logic of this one must make a huge…tremendously gi-normous… leap of faith, which is to believe there would be no more terrorism if guns were only in the hands of the Military and Law Enforcement (Darfur anyone?). Anyone else but me having a really hard time buying into this nonsense?
Later in the Forbes piece we get a couple interesting stats:
[L]aw-abiding citizens in America used guns in self-defense 2.5 million times during 1993 (about 6,850 times per day), and actually shot and killed 2 1/2 times as many criminals as police did (1,527 to 606). Those civilian self-defense shootings resulted in less than 1/5th as many incidents as police where an innocent person was mistakenly identified as a criminal (2% versus 11%).
Given that these numbers are from 8 years ago I’d offer that it is a safe bet we’re defending ourselves even MORE now, in light of the numbers of states that have been ADDED to the rolls of those with even MORE 2nd Amendment rights having been conferred upon their citizens…and the author (Larry Bell) agrees:
Recognizing clear statistical benefit evidence, 41 states now allow competent, law-abiding adults to carry permitted or permit-exempt concealed handguns. As a result, crime rates in those states have typically fallen at least 10% in the year following enactment.
I’m not seeing the value nor the point in undoing all these improvements in the numbers which has, clearly, been due to more sensible gun rights finally being recognized in State Legislatures across the country. I’m especially not making the connection between Americans giving up their guns and less radical Muslims killing each other while looking for new ways to kill us.
This whole nonsensical idea will find it’s way to the floor of the US Senate soon enough, and one would “hope” they’d have the good sense God gave them to see this for what it is and vote a resounding “No.” Speaking only for myself, however, I’ll go out and buy more now…and continue stockpiling ammunition…on the outside chance they do not.
