I Agree With Dennis Kucinich?

The offensive item we agree upon was an amendment to H.R. 1540, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012

Amendment No. 56—Reps. Chaffetz (R-UT), Welch (D-VT): The amendment would require U.S. ground troops to withdraw from Afghanistan, leaving just those who are involved in small, targeted counter-terrorism operations.  The amendment would also require the Secretary of Defense to submit a withdrawal plan to Congress within 60 days of enactment.

I cried in the shower for a couple hours but couldn’t scrub off the filth.  Then John Stuart Mill dried me off, wiped the snot from my nose, the tears from my eyes and whispered something in my ear…

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

Kucinich, and most Democrats, are exactly the miserable creatures Mr. Mill spoke of.  Nothing is worth war!  BusHitler!  Bush Lied People Died!  Unless you are an increasingly unpopular President and you need something to boost your poll numbers with a specific group of voters.  Then sending our troops to Libya is fine and dandy.  Continuing the war in Afghanistan is all rosy and wonderful.  Mr. Mill should have said…

Politics is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded soul of those who would sacrifice the lives of a Nations youth merely to gain political favor, who hold nothing more important than promoting their own personal power and privilege are miserable creatures and must be removed from office by men better than themselves.

The current ROE is shameful, our Soldiers self-defense is called into question, necessary supporting fires are withheld for fear of collateral damage, Soldiers are urged to run away rather than execute their own well trained and rehearsed Battle Drills.

If you are in a situation where you are under fire from the enemy… if there is any chance of creating civilian casualties or if you don’t know whether you will create civilian casualties, if you can withdraw from that situation without firing, then you must do so.”

“There is a strong sense in on the ground by the company commanders and platoon commanders that the rules of engagement are too restrictive,” he told reporters.

“They result in more casualties. They don’t allow for the kind of immediate engagement. The enemy understands these rules of engagement and manipulates them.” General Zinni (USMC Ret.)

Army officers were cited for poor planning and oversight of a Sept. 8, 2009, operation in Ganjgal, a remote village near the Pakistan border with Kunar province. Three Marines and a corpsman were killed on the battlefield after they were repeatedly denied air and artillery support while pinned down by more than 100 insurgents.

The CIA  passed up a chance last year to kill Sirajuddin Haqqani, the head of an anti-American insurgent network in Pakistan  that is closely linked to Al Qaeda and the Afghan Taliban, when it chose not to fire a missile at him from a Predator drone because women and children were nearby, U.S. and Pakistani officials say.

h/t The Captain’s Journal (there are more examples, click the link and read for yourself)

There is no plan to achieve victory; the President can’t even bring himself to say “Victory” unless he’s talking about 2012 and the third term of Jimmy Carter.

I still dance a jig of celebration at the thought of Bin Laden finally reaping his just rewards but his well deserved death has no bearing on my support of withdrawal or the Democrat’s “Overseas Kinetic Contingency Operation.”  He was successful in perpetrating an idea; that of a Muslim Caliphate encompassing the globe.  That idea struck a spark in the minds of evil men around the world.  Progress is made daily across Europe by, more or less, peaceful subterfuge.  The same tactics are at use and supported by the “O”ministration and their evil Party right here in the United States.  Till those evil men are sent to join Osama the threat will continue.

Millions of Americans have given the last full measure of devotion for ourselves and countless others across the world, millions of parents, wives and children have paid the price asked of them by our Leaders and we enjoy the fruits of their sacrifice today.  They fought for Victory, they died for a cause, for something bigger than themselves.  If the only cause and the only victory we can find today is the re-election of the socialist Barack Obama then bring them home.  Nothing is worth that.

  1. I am sorry you have to write things like this, nessa. I know you don’t want to. But you have to. I could hardly believe what I was reading last year when they said the military chiefs were considering giving combat soldiers in Afghanistan medals for……restraint.

    • Thanks Bob, I’ve always supported General Sherman’s idea of Total War. War has to hurt everyone, if it doesn’t hurt there is no reason for anyone to end it, not the enemy, not the politicians, not the local civilians… Ask the residents of Dresden in 1945. No military targets there, factories and employees producing goods to support the Nazi’s war effort. Initial estimates were 250,000 dead after the bombing. You know what? The ones that survived were ready for the war to end. Today our CIA passes up a chance to kill Sirajuddin Haqqani, the head of the Haqqani Network, less well known but even more lethal than the Taliban, because there are women and children there. His wife and children? Total strangers on the street? I don’t know and I don’t care, they took it upon themselves to be in the company of a terrorist, they can die like a terrorist.

  2. I suspect a high, high 90’s percentile of Americans wouldn’t have any idea where Dresden is, let alone what happened there in ’45. But, what is the most depressing thing is how our military leaders seem to be going along with the PC nonsense of the libs. I lost all respect for Petraeus when he stood over there and blamed somebody in Fla. for people getting killed on his watch in Afghanistan. Plus, he’s over there conducting sensitivity training in re DADT when he’s supposed to be fighting a war.

    • I stood on BG Petraeus’ carpet back in the day. He was the Deputy Commander of the 82nd Airborne Division, I was a mere Sergeant First Class. The first ass-chewing from each successive rank is the most memorable, he was the first Brigadier (though hardly the last). I honestly believe he’s doing the best he can within the politicians restrictions. LTG David Rodriguez is there as well. I know him personally, he was my Brigade Commander back in the day and my Division Commander in 07 and 08 when I was on his staff in Bagram, Afghanistan. He’s a damn fine Officer, this convoluted ROE bull-crap isn’t his idea, I can guarantee that. He would say the same things I have about it, just a little more politely. Cheese eating Officers looking to suck their way into the next check the block duty position is nothing new but Petraeus and Rod ain’t! That means its coming from higher. Ain’t many folks higher than 4 stars, that kinda narrows it down some.

  3. Right now is when I feel so powerless, yet so angry, it makes my blood pressure skyrocket. I hope we all live to see the idiocy that is this presidency repudiated, his policies and actions overturned, and his supporters repaid for their fecklessness and stupidity.
