President Obama: Stay Out of Texas

President Obama took a break from his Osama victory tour to visit Texas on Tuesday. He made his first stop in Democrat friendly El Paso. Obama came to talk immigration, about which he has said he wants to have a civil and reasoned debate.

President Obama addressed an enthusiastic crowd Tuesday when he spoke in El Paso about liberalizing federal immigration laws. Audience members exhorted the president to “tear down” the border fence and called immigration hard-liners “racist.” -San Franciso Chronicle

The president took a mocking attitude towards his border policy opponents, as described by the Los Angeles Times:

More agents are now assigned to the border than at any other time in history, he said. The number of intelligence analysts working there has nearly tripled. And drones patrol the skies. Yet despite his best efforts, the president joked, nothing seems to satisfy some Republicans’ demands for greater border security. “Maybe they’ll need a moat,” he said. “Or alligators in the moat.”

Hey Mr President, Texans like that moat idea. Whatever made you think of it? At least he could have given “The Onion” a nod.

The president left El Paso to collect some campaign cash in little Moscow on the Colorado . . . otherwise known as Austin, Texas. Austin is weird and so they were happy to shell out up to $1000 a head to listen to the president mislead about the economy. There’s a straight up lie in this video. Obama stretched the jobs number by 156,000. You can google it.

The president should stay out of Texas. He lost the state by ten points in 2008 and the last poll by the Houston Chronicle had him at 36% approval. Ouch!

Texans just don’t like Obama. He doesn’t help himself when his EPA is trying to shut down Gulf Coast industry over greenhouse gas regulations. The EPA is also trying to get some tiny lizard in West Texas on the Endangered list which would shut down a lot of the Permian Basin oil production. The Texas border is a sieve and then . . . there is this:

President Obama is trying to break Texas. It just makes sense, doesn’t it? Texas is the free market job engine that makes the Obama policies look pathetic. Texas ranks number one in business climate. Illinois, New York and California rank 48, 49, and 50. Those are big blue states that love Obama’s big government solutions. Yeah, Texas is a thorn in Obama’s side.

Mr. President, Texans know what you are about and what you are trying to do. Stay off our turf and quit messing with Texas.

  1. And I just want to point out, he’s lying about the border agents.

    Via Ace of Spades:

He also claims we’ve doubled our border patrol “since 2004.” Well, okay, but what’s this “we” business, Obama?

Even allowing him to date his build up from the middle of the Bush presidency — he has only increased border agents about 15% on the southern border.

Yes, we have added thousands and thousands of border agents… to guard the Canadian border.

As of April 9, 2011, there were 20,745 Border Patrol agents nationwide – an increase of approximately 3,246 since President Obama took office.

And what about those agents on the US-Mexican border? Surely that’s what many in the audience thought the president was talking about as he stood on the border and talked about border agents – not those in Buffalo, NY.

As of October 2008, there were 15,442 Border Patrol agents at the Southwest border. There are currently 17,659 Border Patrol Agents between the more than 160 ports of entry on the Southwest border.

That’s an increase of 2,217 Border Patrol agents on the Southwest border in two years.

The administration has made it a goal to have 18,000 Border Patrol agents at the Southwest border by October 2011.

We need border agents for other purposes besides the Mexican border, but to speak of those agents achieving other purposes in the context of a speech about immigration from Mexico and parts south is deliberately misleading.
