Senators Tom Coburn and Barack Obama peruse the Coburn-Obama Transparency Act
Jerome D. Corsi, author of the new book “Where’s The Birth Certficiate”, has had the good fortune to see his work rocket up to #1 on Amazon.com, all the more remarkable as the formal release date is not until May 17. Obviously, the birth controversy inevitably leads to Barack Obama’s eligibility to serve as president.
Now the Constitution does not say one must produce a birth certificate to run for president. It does say one must be a natural born citizen of the US. Now, if we were discussing the eligiblity of, say, Harry Truman, no one would doubt that status, even if the relevant records of late 19th century Missouri had perished in flood, draught, or fire. Any effort to assert the contrary would be rightly dismissed as mere partisan maneuvering.
But Barack Obama is different. His supporters have played up his exotic origins, as part of their cult of multiculturalism. Trouble is, if those origins prove to be exotic enough, they will provoke a political firestorm at least, and a constitutional crisis at worst.
America deserves better. The president and his supporters need to lance the boil and produce the goods that confirm Obama’s eligibility to serve as president. (And I think he is eligible.) If there are embarrassing factoids in the evidence, all Mr. Obama needs to do is call Donald Trump for advice on how to live down embarrassment. Mr. Trump knows all about it.
