In Order To Form A More Perfect Union

So I’m logging on to UP the other day and out of the corner of my eye I catch the UP mission statement up there in the banner.   It says ‘Electing Constitutional Conservatives ….’   and it gets me to thinking. All of us here at UP want those people we elect to follow the Constitution, but considering the fact that a lot of the people we elect, even if Constitutionalists in spirit, seem to be a little light on the details of the document, I wondered how many of us out here goading them on might ourselves need a little refresher from time to time?  It occurred to me that maybe along with the other tools UP gives us, if they could maybe include a feature where the actual text of the Constitution is incorporated in some way into the site, either in total or segmented into weekly features by Article or Amendment, perhaps it would inspire us in our dealings with one another or our fellow citizens at large, and maybe even prompt us to ask intelligent Constitutional questions of those seeking to represent us, or already representing us,  in public office.

The notion of appealing to Perry White directly for a favor is daunting, to say the least.  You know how rigid he can be!  So I wondered, maybe if enough of us thought seeing some Constitutionalisms here at the site would benefit us foundationally, we could ask our friend Vassar Bushmills to intercede on our behalf (Vassar is a big education nut, you know!  And I think he’s got a little ‘juice’ )

So if any of you members think this is worth a spit and happen to be on Vassar’s friends list, give him a few ‘Likes”‘, or whatever it is the kids do,  and he might agree to make the case for us.

  1. I think this is a great idea!!! Similar to a civics mini-refresher course. (vassar likes civics, so I hope this will bring extra credit points for this)

And we’ll be that much more prepared to stand our ground in the months to come, not only in regards to what we believe about the direction this country should go in but also why we believe it is the best choice.

    • Line, I share your enthusiasm. Nothing distinguishes our side from our foes like our foundational beliefs and traditions. This current assault on the Constitution and the Bible has done more to awaken peiople than anything I can remember in my lifetime.

People are getting an object lesson as to what happens after law and morality are struck down and eliminated from our public life.

  2. Great idea!
Maybe a special weekly constitutional conversation? I know I could use the insight of most of the regulars here in discussing some aspect of the constitution each week.

Perhaps with reference to the Federalist Papers, if anybody can provide that sort of cross reference.

  3. I volunteer a buddy of mine to tattoo it on our Congresscritters’ chests.

And then I’ll volunteer to apply the healing tar and feathers on top of the tattoo before we throw them off the dome. Howzat for an idea?

    • Queen- Just give me your buddy nessa’s address. I’ll ship Cantor over to him in one of those tall skinny usps shipping boxes, reinforced so he doesn’t fold and crumple during the delivery. No return address will be included. That is if I can find him.

  4. Great idea, indeed, Bob. We’re working on an Education Page, anyway, Unified Patriots University (and All Night Wrecker Service), I think your theme fits. We’ll take it up with Perry. We’re so new he still has a list of To-Do’s, and still isn’t getting paid squat. But i think you’ll see this become a reality in coming weeks.

    • vassar, many genuine and sincere thanks to all for their receptiveness in considering this idea.

I don’t know what the circumstances might be for other people, but I didn’t get civics education when I was younger. US History and World History, yes. Civics wasn’t offered. It wasn’t in the school system my kids attended either, vassar. So there is a gap in knowledge through at least 2 generations.

Perception isn’t always reality, I know, but my gut keeps telling me that there is not only a need for this type of “constitutional education” but also a genuine desire for it as well. Just to restore belief in this nation. Who we are. What we stand for and against. How we the people developed. How we got to where we are now.

All of it plays into where we go from here. That’s the choice we have to make…where do we go from here.
