Oconomy! That Bunny For Your Honey Will Cost More Money

Now who doesn’t like to get a chocolate bunny at Easter?  Cute, sprightly and sinfully delicious!  Alas, like other pleasures of the flesh, this one is going cost you.  Following the global trend of rising food prices, Hershey’s announced a 9.7% rise in their wholesale chocolate prices

Food inflation is the dirty little secret of the chattering classes, who are constantly telling us that inflation is “under control”.  They point to relatively benign inflation statistics, and they may even tell you that said statistics do not include the “volatile food and energy sectors”.  Which leaves the alert mind to do the “Huh?!”  Of course, if you’re an android on solar power, it may be irrelevant.

The price of food matters.  It may not be the sexiest topic in the world, but it has toppled kings and kingdoms.  Tonight on Italian Tomatoes, we will look at what is driving the higher prices we are all seeing at the supermarket.

  1. “…inflation is “under control”.”
Yes, I’ve noticed how the liberals have been working to increase food and energy prices gradually so we wouldn’t scream about it.

Of course, their time of such moderation has passed now and all the stops are off.

How many people worldwide have or will die because the greenies are putting so much corn into gas tanks?

    • “…and all the stops are off.” You said a mouthful there, EastBayLarry. Every week when I go to the grocery store, there are more and more things that I no longer buy because they are not essential and I need that extra money just to afford what IS essential. What really hurts is having to buy groceries and gas on the same day.

As I understand it, the amount of food stamps that a person gets is a set amount. It doesn’t go up just because the price of food is skyrocketing. So what about all this liberal angst that the lefties keep wailing about when they bemoan how Republicans are trying to kill off poor folks? And yet it’s the libs, by and large, who very much approve of all the policies which are driving up the cost of so much that is essential.

  2. Food price inflation is ‘under control” according to the libs.

Can you say bite me and who in God’s good name does the grocery shopping in your house? Or do they have a government subsidy on that expense also!
