What N.O.W. ? How N.O.W.?

I decided to tackle the misconceptions that most people have about the women’s rights movement and what it meant to women in general, and me personally.  Growing up in a Democrat household (JFK Democrat, not progressive trash Democrat) my mother was a devotee of the movement, and ingrained in me many of their early beliefs, including, that I could be anything I wanted to be.  The truth of the matter is, women throughout history have been able to be all they wanted to be, if they were willing to work a little harder.  Fortunately, she didn’t teach me to USE every single solitary life situation to batter men upside the head with my “feminism.”

It is scandalous what has become of a movement that once had noble goals of better pay and working conditions for women, to being an organization that screeches and screams every time they think their radical liberalism is being slighted.  Today, the  National Organization for Women is nothing but a mouthpiece for the Democrat Party and their far Left constituency.  There is nothing about them that speaks for the majority of Conservative women in the United States.  42% to 44% of all Americans claim Conservatism, more than half of that number are women.  N.O.W. constantly fights against conservative women, and while they claim to represent the true feminist, they are not really feminine in their goals or desires for women.  The public is constantly being fed the lie that Republican men want their wives barefoot and pregnant, they’ve done this for so long, that the radical feminists actually believe it is true.  Yet, millions of Conservative/Republican women would be happy to tell them it isn’t true.

The Democrat Party is not the Party that cares about women, it isn’t even the Party that cares about Blacks, but we all know if you tell a lie often enough, it becomes the “truth.” It is Conservatism that sees freedom and fairness for ALL who embrace America.

In browsing the internet, I’ve noticed a number of articles indicating that there is quite a bit of self-reflection going on.  American women are recognizing that N.O.W. rarely speaks on their behalf any more, and some are recognizing that the radical feminists of the sixties never did speak for them.   I find the most compelling argument about the failure of the movement to be in the Irish Examiner What Went Wrong, Was Wrong, Never Was Right

These ’60’s revolutionaries bare scant resemblance to the heroic suffragettes who picketed President Wilson’s White House and were beaten and jailed in their battle for the right to vote. The militant fems have used that hard-fought right to kill their unborn children, bare their breasts in public and generally sanction a whore life style in their misguided search for equality. I was a very young woman when the “revolution” began and frankly to me it stunk of hypocrisy and I refused to carry their banner or to burn my bra.

Betty Friedan with her book, “The Feminine Mystique” (1963) advocated the idea of women breaking out of their traditional roles. She helped advance the women’s rights movement and was one of the founders of the National Organization of Women (NOW). We were supposed to jump off our pedestal and become independent and enjoy all the perks that men enjoyed with their higher paying jobs. That meant of course that being a housewife became very low on the totem pole of life.

You know the part that got me in the above? That being a housewife became very low on the totem pole of life. How I wished I could have been home with my children, that my family could live off of the salary of just my husband working, but alas, that is not how this Country works anymore.  I had to work nights to ensure my children were not latchkey kids and sleep two hours a day just to be there for my children.  N.O.W. created this mystique about how free women would be if they just went to bed with every man who wanted you, that somehow that would give women equality with men.  No, it didn’t “ladies,” it just let men and society cheapen you – a heavy price to be paid for such “FREEDOM.”  The feminists who pushed for the sexual revolution didn’t benefit themselves in this regard, men were the beneficiaries.  Think about that.

But in another aspect, both sexes suffered under this so-called sexual revolution – because 50M babies have been murdered since that “fantastic” revolution and they were of both sexes and multiple races.  The children of our future have been killed off by the sexual revolution and “freedom” to do whatever you want, without any of the responsibility.   Everyone loses on that score.

Everything about N.O.W. and the whole 60s drug fueled revolutions by the lefties have brought us to this point in time.  Today, we see the results of their idiocies, but they still cling to their progressivism and their radicalism, regardless of the harm to themselves, or others.

I laughed when I read that these “feminists” are scared to tell their daughters not to dress like tramps because, well, they did it themselves when they thought it was the “hip” thing to do.  How Not To Raise A Daughter

I have a different theory. It has to do with how conflicted my own generation of women is about our own past, when many of us behaved in ways that we now regret. A woman I know, with two mature daughters, said, “If I could do it again, I wouldn’t even have slept with my own husband before marriage. Sex is the most powerful thing there is, and our generation, what did we know?”

We are the first moms in history to have grown up with widely available birth control, the first who didn’t have to worry about getting knocked up. We were also the first not only to be free of old-fashioned fears about our reputations but actually pressured by our peers and the wider culture to find our true womanhood in the bedroom. Not all of us are former good-time girls now drowning in regret—I know women of my generation who waited until marriage—but that’s certainly not the norm among my peers.

So here we are, the feminist and postfeminist and postpill generation. We somehow survived our own teen and college years (except for those who didn’t), and now, with the exception of some Mormons, evangelicals and Orthodox Jews, scads of us don’t know how to teach our own sons and daughters not to give away their bodies so readily. We’re embarrassed, and we don’t want to be, God forbid, hypocrites.

So in a nutshell, what you have is what you always get with liberal ideas, insanity.

  1. Jaded, at long last it seems women are taking another look. this is good new for the kids because somebody has to raise them and their moms are best equipped for the job.

There are many women today who, with their families, are finding a way and making the sacrifices to be a traditional family. Not for everybody but wouldn’t we be better off if every family with that desire could do it.

  2. “The Democrat Party is not the party that cares about women” First, I am glad that you use “Democrat Party” instead of Democratic Party. They hve been trying to condition us to use “Democratic”, but the part traditionally was known as the Democrat Party. I used to be one.
And as an illustration of what you mean, consider these two items in re Gabrielle Giffords. The next weekend after the shootings, first at the rally where Obama was given the plum of announcing to the world that she had opened her eyes, or spoke or something. That was bad enough. Then two Dem congresswomen, supposedly really good friends of Giffords, had to go on every TV show they could find to tell how they were *actually in the room* when Giffords did her thing and how wonderful it was ……for them! But the worst of all was when Dem operatives, even before it was known whether Giffords would live, let alone function, began floating her as a candidate for Senator.

    • Bob M- I remember something even worse from that day. After Baer said on FOX that Giffords had died, about an hour later, her good friend Suzanne Martinez I think was her name, went on FOX by phone and said that Giffords was in surgery, and, it was the Tea Party that caused this to happen, almost in the same sentence. That’s where Sheriff Dupenik got his line of attack against the Tea Parties and those damn@d Republicans. An hour maybe, just an hour it took them to exploit the Giffords tragedy into a polotical hit job against the Republicans.

Jaded, I still like Rush’s description of the 60’s female radicals- Feminazi’s. Either Rush or Beck today played Billary’s screeching commentary from the Bush years when she screamed “How dare they say we are not patriotic because we question this administration.” Talk about sounding just like a fish wife.

  3. This is *so* dead on, Jaded.

Speaking as a man, all the ‘sexual revolution’ did was allow men to enjoy their basest instincts of enjoying unfettered sex with zero responsibility, leaving in their wake single moms, battered children, and aborted babies.

I will in no way absolve my gender of these boorish, base and revolting behaviors. But, as you point out, women also have to take responsibility for *allowing* themselves to be used in such a manner.

Or, as someone of my parent’s generation once said to me in regards to all this: “Why should a farmer buy the cow if he can get the milk for free?”

I am grateful that women in this country are starting to wake up to the fact that they’ve been had…and that being ‘equal’ with men really just means lowering themselves to their level.

  4. Do you remember a period after we went into Afghanistan and ousted the Taliban and there was hope for the women and the girls could go to school? I don’t know what the status is now ’cause nobody reports on it anymore, but as I recall, NOW wasn’t a big supporter of liberating Afgani females either.

    • The status is those women have been screwed over and they are still third class citizens, those animals in the Middle East will not be changing to allow women any rights. Hillary etc are LIARS when they bring up “womens rights” just like when they LIE about helping the Black community, it is all about getting and obtaining power. They use the language of freedom to get votes and then use their power to shut it down!

  5. Some thoughts:
    1. Isn’t it interesting we have had 20-30 million jobs “Americans don’t want to do” filled by undocumented aliens – maybe they should have gone instead to the 30 million young Americans who would have gladly taken those jobs as entry level but – oops -were aborted out of the picture the last 30 years – when the undocumenteds made their greatest influx.
    2. Lady P I fear structural damage has been done not only to our female population in the US, but the male. For the first time ever in US history, most men are just not going to college – academia and the media spent two generations favoring and encouraging girls to assert themselves and push men to the side. And not get married or start families. On the macro societal scale this is disastrous – we will find out how disastrous should we ever face a WWII style full mobilization situation again. No nation ever, ever, ever won a war by favoring, training, preparing, and sending to the front, 100 million women. It is against the natural order of things and nature’s division of labor, and it just won’t work. And the consequendes of forcible invasion are too terrible to reflect on. The women currently serving are wonderful and pull their weight if not more so, but we need the majority of them on the home front, it is …..honestly, more important for the entire country.
    3. But again, the true fault line in our wonderful country is conservative-liberal, not man-woman (though that is another trick the progressives use well, to get them warring with each other). I reckon (in the Shakespearian usage of that phrase – it is quite good English, actually ) that about half of this country, the conservative [men +women] half, are carrying it now and doing the heavy lifting thinking and working , while the other half is checked out in liberal pipe dreams and not pulling their weight in many ways, in fact a kind of dead weight sometimes. A hard task but we conservatives have got to keep on.

    • it is Conservative-liberal and we keep letting the 18% dictate to the 42% in this Country. I remember the early 80s when the Religious Right said enough was enough and took back the school boards and this Country. I guess they either got tired of defending the US or they became progressives but they have disappeared and NOW it is up to the TEA Party to TAKE IT BACK, once again!
