We are in the middle of costly asymmetrical warfare on three fronts..our commanders are confused, demoralized, begging for mission defnition and leadership ….and now this.

“Before filling out your quarterly evaluation, Colonel, we need to ask you: What part of  ‘openly gay’ do you not understand?”

I have, for the most part, always been one to live and let live, to not poke my nose into other people’s affairs or business, to not be quick to judge, and to assume that careful thought and consideration goes into the decision-making at major institution-level venues which are above my ken and pay grade.

But it has come to this:

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/mar/22/military-set-to-train-for-end-of-dont-ask/

The devil is always in the details, and a wise man once said “Forgive them, for they know not what they do”, but how long can we keep forgiving them when they have been told over and over and over what the consequences of their actions will be?

People are killing and being killed. And we are doing this. Women and children and the aged and infirm are being displaced. And we are doing this. Families are being separated and far too often torn apart.  And we are doing this. The prospects for suffering and misery,  not only in foreign lands but on our own soil, grow and materialize by the day. And we are doing this.

And the sad, head-shakingly incomprehensible thing about it all is that the ones pushing for this cannot fathom that they are hindering, hampering and, yes, emasculating  the foremost, if not the only, capable force in the world standing between them  and brutal, savage repression and harm.

Somehow, a way must be found to not just forgive them, but to save them….from the harm they bring to themselves.  For they know not what they do.

  1. As warped as it sounds, bob, I think they know what they do. Their goal is to weaken America on as many fronts as possible. They’ve spent the last century, and certainly the last 50yrs, to bring down America as we know it. America, with traditions and a morally based foundation to her very core. A foundation that is meant to keep the fabric of society together. If you remove any evidence of a Supreme being, then you can make the rest just “go away.” To them, this is all a means to an end, regardless of the ripple affect or cost.

  2. Amen Bon, and unfortunately, Gates is no help. Consider this quote:

“But U.S. defence secretary Robert Gates hit back at the suggestion, saying it would be ‘unwise’ to target the Libyan leader adding cryptically that the bombing campaign should stick to the ‘U.N. mandate’.

  3. FYI, you can’t always tell about how many people view your dispatch from comments, but a lot of people have looked at this today. Never forget readers far outnumber commenters, by a X10 margin. Great work.

  4. Excellent piece, bob. Those who continue to perpetrate these schemes (and I’m just not talking about gays in the miliatry) don’t give a rat’s hinder about the impact they have on America; some of them don’t even *like* America…and the others are too blinded by their ‘rights’ to care about the end result of their actions…

    …until it’s too late.

  5. I know it is not necessary to push the emphasis on consequence here, but I’m going to anyway. From the link:

‘At a Pentagon teleconference from Kabul last month, the top U.S. enlisted man there said training will take place during combat operations:

“Our goal is to not allow a unit to return to home station and have the unit responsible for that,” said Army Command Sgt. Maj. Marvin Hill. “While we own those soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines, we’re going to execute that training on the ground. We hope that it will have little impact on their combat and security operations here.”
Oh, Sgt. Major. Your ‘hope’ about impact on combat and security operations bothers me. It bothers me a great deal. It is only one step removed from saying “We ‘hope’ we defeat the enemy.”

    • Sorry it took me so long to comment here bob, it’s a great dispatch! Thanks for writing it!

I’ve been told by several of my former peers, now very Senior NCOs that this was it for them. As in they are dropping their retirement paperwork. And its not the DADT repeal that pushed them over the edge, its the stupid sensitivity training and the glimpses they are getting of the plans to integrate gays. Why waste time adding fluff training and waste Soldier’s time? The entire block of instruction can be covered thus…

“Ok, you can be openly gay, you were gay last week right? Nobody cares. So why don’t you have a big cup of STFU and do your job?”

      • And looking just a bit beyond the end of our noses, Nessa, can we not see the, oh, gee, pick one, Human rights Campaign, ACLU, GLAAD, Southern Poverty Law Center, offices doing some really fine pro bono work on behalf of discriminated against/ bullied gay soldiers? How long (the link above emphasized that ‘partners’ of gay troops are not qualified for military bennies) before the demonstrations start for equal rights for gay partners. This thing’s just getting started.

    • and yes, the video is meant jokingly, but the context of what is being presented is very much so true.

Our military will be given sensitivity training in the field. There are likely to be 2 sets of standards for “successful training” for soldiers…one for gays and one for everyone else.

I have two brothers who served in the military, and they foresee this going over like a lead balloon.

  6. The thing that strikes me is that the “sensitivity training” is taking place on the battlefield where the enemy we are fighting isn’t “sensitive” about the gay lifestyle. The Islamists kill gays with no questions asked. That’s why I though it would be an interesting endeavor at CPAC this year to put the Muslim table next to GAYproud’s table, with Norquist in between to referee.

  7. I’m thankful my father is not alive to see what is happening to the U.S. Military. God in heaven deliver us from this travesty of a fubar president and his associates.

Our men and women in uniforms mission is to defend this country from enemies both foreign and domestic. Not to make some flutterby comfortable in their own skin.

    • Our framers in many ways modelled us on the Roman Republic. For most of its healthy life as a republic, at least, its generals were found in the field with their legions, placed on the ramparts of the good old SPQR, defending it by holding off the barbarians. Generals and their legions were not even supposed to come within the city limits of Rome, let alone mix with the Senate – in order to keep the republic free . It all started to go rotten when the legions – with their generals at the head – started showing up in the capital to deal with emergencies, political or otherwise. (Recall one Julius Caesar and a certain Rubicon river.)A class of political generals was born who spent most of their time politicking and courting favor of other political generals, senators, and finally – the Emperor. The Republic was by then defunct . We all know DC starts a rot in our politicians who work there , but never has it been more apparent to me we have a rising and ensconsed class of political generals and admirals likewise steeping in the rot of ambition, maneuvering for power in DC, and so far removed from the troops, ships, planes or the nation’s security. It is really sad.

      • Great point, cactus. I’m presently slogging through The Decline and Fall (for the 2nd time). Gibbon is of the firm opinion that the corruption of the military led to Rome’s fall. Under the tyrants, the legions became what our unions are today. The comparison is striking between the money trail then–it led rom emperors declaring massive donatives, to soldiers becoming lax and ineffective; and the money trail now–it leads from union dues, to increased salary and benefits to “public workers” who bankrupt our institutions.
