GOP gives Dems another shellacking in March

In politics there has been a lot of talk about what is going on in states with a GOP Governor like Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Florida, Arizona, and Virginia. These same states have college basketball teams a lot of folks are talking about. In addition to these are Utah and Kansas that have a GOP Governor and a college basketball team that won. Eleven of the sweet 16 teams are from these GOP states, and the other five are from a state with a Dem Governor. All eight teams in the Southeast and Southwest Regionals are from GOP states, therefore two of the final four teams are guaranteed to be from a GOP state. The East Regional has two of the four from a GOP state, and the West Regional has one, Arizona, from a GOP state. I would love to see a final four where all four are from GOP states

Actually it is more than the fun and the joy because large amounts of dollars are also involved. The teams that win receive more money directly and also indirectly with respect to getting more attention so they have future games on national TV. Now some may just shrug and say coincidence, but you could have better brackets if you had looked at the matchups this way. Let me show you seven examples.
Kansas vs Boston U. (pick GOP Kansas over Dem Massachusetts)
Kansas vs Illinois (pick GOP Kansas over Dem Illinois)
VCU vs Georgetown (pick GOP Virginia over Dem D.C.)
Richmond vs Morehead State (pick GOP Virginia over Dem Kentucky)
BYU vs Gonzaga (pick GOP Utah over Dem Washington)
Florida vs UCLA (pick GOP Florida over Dem California)
Marquette vs Syracuse (pick GOP Wisconsin over Dem New York)
Just think how much better your brackets look with this kind of thinking. In the future perhaps two of the for states with a Dem Governor that have three of the five remaining sweet 16 spots will have a GOP Governor. I am looking at YOU … North Carolina and Kentucky.

    • The Tar Heel State committed the nearly unpardonable sin via the Electoral College in 2008, but will move back to the right in 2012 much as it did in 2010.

But the Buckeyes will best their UNC and Blue Devils in March Madness 2011.
