Japan Earthquake- Tremor Upgraded to 9.0

Japanese authorities have upgraded the catastrophic earthquake that centered on the northern city of Sendai to 9.0 on the Richter scale. The earthquake is now officially the strongest earthquake to hit Japan since official recordkeeping began a century ago.

Japan is particularly vulnerable to tsunamis, as many roads and railroads are placed on by the shore because Japan’s mountainous terrain makes it very expensive to build further inland. The video above captures the unimaginable power of the tsunami.

Breaking news related to the aftermath of the earthquake can be found at NHK, Japan’s national news network.

  1. streetwise, I just clicked on the link you provided, and I got a permission denied message. I’m getting very confused about just what is the truth of the goings on in Japan, other than to know it is very bad. Look at the story headlines on Drudge. One says no there wasn’t a meltdown, another says there was. One says radiation levels are high, another says they are not. Even reports by the IAEA and other other international organizations are writing conflicting stories. I guess that’s what happens when everyone wants to be first with the news before all of the details are even known.
