The Fourth Estate Slides Deeper into the Abyss

I highly doubt that if you are on this site, reading this article, that you need to be convinced that the MainStreamMedia is horribly biased against conservatives either by what they choose to report, or by what they choose to ignore. So it’s not exactly front page news to offer the observation that the MSM is, well, biased.

But sometimes even the media suffers a bout of bias which is so pervasive, so hypocritical, so beyond the pale of even casual observance that it merits special mention. Well, if the media has ever jumped the shark with regard to blatant, biased reporting, it occurred this week in Madison, Wisconsin.

As we all know, two months ago Gabrielle Giffords was gunned down by a deranged, psychotic man who, it would appear, decided to shoot Ms. Giffords in a fit of pique over her supposed slight of him in 2007. It was a senseless, tragic shooting which killed 6 people and wounded 13 more.

The bodies had not even grown cold, and  the blood hadn’t even dried, before the mainstream media minions rushed to push in unison a single meme for the shooting: it was the result of hateful, vile speech which had spewed from the mouths of right-wing fanatics, tea partiers, conservatives of all stripes, and, especially, Sarah Palin.

Within hours, leftist shills all the way from Keith Olberman to the AP to the Kos Kids to ABCCBSNBCMSNBC were pontificating about the “atmosphere of hate” that those angry denizens of the right had fomented in our political discourse. All of a sudden, using such time-worn political metaphors suck as “target” and “battleground” were found to be incentives to violence, and placing “crosshairs” over “targeted” races was akin to calling for the assassination of candidates. Democrats took to the floor of the House of Representatives to denounce the use of such hateful phrases as “jobs-killing bill”, and Republicans were chided to sit side by side with Democrat politicians at the State of the Union, ostensibly for the purpose of joining hands, singing Kumbaya, and demonstrating a “new tone.”

Except there was one slight problem. Jared Laughner, come to find out, had zero connections to conservative policies or groups.

Fast forward to this past week in Wisconsin where union supporters gathered together to “protest” the bill that was being proposed by Gov. Scott Walker to restructure public sector collective bargaining rights. Contemplate for a moment the reaction of the Fourth Estate if the following had emanated from a Tea Party or conservative action group.

There’s the description given by Sen. Randy Hopper of the mob scene at the state capitol following the vote (h/t to Rob Costa @ NRO):

“We tried to get out of the building after the vote, because they were rushing the chamber, and we were escorted by security through a tunnel system to another building. But, after being tipped off by a Democrat, they mobbed the exit at that building, and were literally trying to break the windows of the cars we were in as we were driving away…I got a phone call yesterday saying that we should be executed. I’ve had messages saying that they want to beat me with a billy club.” (emphasis mine).

Then there was this responsible piece of discourse received by two other State Senators (h/t Gateway Pundit)

State Sens. Joe Leibham and Glenn Grothman confirmed Thursday they were among the Republican senators who received a death threat in the wake of a vote to eliminate most collective bargaining rights for public workers.

The threat was sent in an e-mail late Wednesday with the subject, “Death threat!!!! Bomb!!!!” according to a copy of the letter released by Grothman’s office.

And who wouldn’t want to open their office door in the morning to find this cheery greeting:

And, finally, there’s this little love note, sent by email to fourteen Wisconsin State Senators (excerpts below):

Please put your things in order because you will be killed and your families will also be killed due to your actions in the last 8 weeks…I hope you have a good time in hell…

Read below for more information on possible scenarios in which you will die…We have all planned to assault you by arriving at your house and putting a nice little bullet in your head…

So we have also built several bombs that we have placed in various locations around the areas in which we know that you frequent... This includes, your house, your car, the state capitol, and well I won’t tell you all of them because that’s just no fun.

We Will “get rid of” (in which I mean kill) you.

Now my guess is that there isn’t one in a hundred thousand Americans who have read, heard or seen any of this. Why? Because a search in the last 48 hours of major news outlets – AP, NYT, WaPo, ABCCBSNBCPSNBC, Yahoo! etc. has turned up exactly one mention of death threats and that was a one-sentence, next-to-last paragraph generic mention in an AP article of death threats being investigated.

How. Utterly. Shameful.

In all my years of following the media, I can’t remember a more stark example of blatant hypocrisy and  brazen shamelessness than the reporting of the Gifford’s shooting vis-a-vis the mobs that descended on Madison, Wisconsin, this past week. It is sickening. It is disgusting. And you know as well as I do that there’s only one way to pierce the veil of deception behind which the Liberal Media wishes to seclude us: The New Media.

You read it. You use it. You know how it works.

Git ‘er done!

Constitutional conservative living in the frozen tundra. American first, conservative second, and Precinct Committeeman because I got tired of ColdWarrior hassling me about it (which, btw, led me to being elected as GOP County Chair, to my Congressional District Central Committee and to the state Central Committee).
Fervent believer that if we followed the Tenth Amendment more, we'd be hassled by the government a lot less.

Thanks for putting it out there in stark contrast, EB. The thing about the MSM is that they never, for a minute, engage in the least bit of introspection or self-examination….ever. The only reason I want them to continue to retain the Constitutional privileges and perks they enjoy is that I want them for myself.

An excellent piece of reporting, eburke. I immediately award you Katie Couric’s job, salary and perks. Without the perkiness. And without the sneering contempt for Americans who love this country and our guaranteed freedoms.

I emailed a copy of LaborUnionReport’s copy of the letter that all these families received containing the death threats. What a disgraceful piece of crap and how irresponsible of the media not to report it! Now I can email them a link to your piece as well. Thanks for writing this.

No more comment from me other than to say that you have hit the heart of the problem head on. Well said and be danged with the Fourth Estate. They have diluted the news, and have destroyed any chance at the real news, for their own sinister gain.

EB (Jim)

Whats unfortunate is that the conservatives are able to be shaned when they should not be shamed , these people are beyond being able to be shamed.

This is why we on the conservative side Jim, must elect bold leaders who have the discipline and courage to not be “scared silent” such as Gov Walker and his Fellow Republicans, KUDOs to them.

UGH to the House and Senate Republicans who allowed themselves to be shamed into sitting next to the very people who have diminished our countries greatness intentionally.
