This is one of those rare times when NPR and I agree. Ron Schiller, President of the NPR Foundation, met with men purporting to be members of a Muslim Brotherhood front group. During the conversation, among all the offensive things said about Zionists, Republicans and Tea Partiers, we came to a point of agreement.
We would be better off if NPR did not receive gov’t funding. He believes the stations would benefit as they could be independent of political pressures and I believe we could benefit as they would not be taking part of my paycheck (or, realistically, part of my children/grandchildren’s paychecks) to fund television and radio stations.
And truly, anyone who still believes that we need NPR for variety in either genre lives in a cave. If you want variety in programming, we’ve pretty much got that covered, thank you very much.
