Obama Shows *Contempt* for the Law

I know, that’s really not much of a news flash for those of us who pay attention to politics and the antics of this administration. We’ve watched the games they’ve played with the FCC and “Net Neutrality”, the EPA with “Greenhouse Gas Regulations”, et. al. We know that they play fast and loose with the rules when they want to and when it suits their political cronies.

But it still startles me to see the depths to which they are willing to sink. I work in banking and we are exempt from certain laws; some because of our size; others due to our location. But we are exempt from no laws because we contacted one of our good friends in the administration and asked if they’d give us a pass. And if other banks in the nation were getting administration “Get Out of Jail Free” cards, exempting them from complying with RESPA or RegZ or HMDA because they are expensive (and mostly stupid) regulations, there would be an uproar.

But because they have promoted and passed an ill-conceived, economically destructive act, and they want to let it sink in good before the full ramifications hit, the Obama administration is granting waivers to politically connected and visible unions and businesses so they don’t have to comply with the Health Regulatory Law commonly known as Obamacare.

In the days of the British Monarchy, these were known as dispensations and the founders’ disdain for this invitation to bribery and corruption was one of the reasons the Constitution gives no such authority to the President. When they wrote the words, “due process of law” they intended the law to be the guiding force, not political favoritism.

President Obama does not have that right or the authority to “waive” the law. The fact that the administration has done so, 1,040 dispensations granted so far, and has received no push-back from other parties on the Hill or from the press is astounding to me.

We are being poorly represented, people. By all parties, both elected representatives and the media. I know it’s hard to keep up with all the outrage, but I can’t help but wonder if it will ever get to the point where tempers of the American people boil over and they shout, “Enough!” When we will no longer be Lonely Conservatives.

We need to clean house. Tar, feather, politicians. Some assembly required.

I was born in Saginaw, Michigan, and I grew up in a house on Saginaw Bay. My daddy was a poor, hardworking Saginaw fisherman. Too many times he came home with too little pay. Naw, not really, but it sounds more interesting than the real bio, so there you are.

  1. Hopefully by the time Ocare gets to the Supreme Court, there will be even larger numbers of waivers. The waivers are being granted because the law would adversely affect their business or organization, if I am not mistaken. The more waivers given, the more destructive the law promises to be for everyone. The justices are not blind. Well, not all of them.
