Recently we wrote about how the conservatives in the House are more than just 40 members. While this still holds true recent votes have shrunk the conservative number from 86 to 60 in the House. The most recent event to change is when a seldom used discharge petition allowed a way to get the House to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank that had expired on July 1st. It started with 42 Republicans signing the petition so that it had 218 signatures, and it ended with a majority of the Republicans voting with all but one Democrat on final passage. There are only 117 Republicans who voted against passage, and only 60 of them voted the conservative position this time and on 25 other key votes 78% to 100% of the time. There are only six states where every Republican voted No, and there are 13 states where every Republican voted Yes.

Ronald Reagan said it best.

No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we’ll ever see on this earth!

The table below list the Representatives and the years they have been in DC range from 0 to 36. The residents in their congressional districts should be proud. If you live in a district where you are not getting represented, and it seems your congressman is more faithful to the donor class chamber of commerce K street crowd, then you need a new congressman. Your incumbent congressman is not going to change. Only electing a challenger has any chance of bringing about change.
